Special Projects Operator (2nd Shift)This position will require access to ITAR and/or EAR controlled technical data, technology or source code, and requires that all individuals in this role be authorized to access such informationGeneral Description:The Special Projects Operator is responsible for producing rubber and composite products in accordance with prescribed procedures and schedules. This position reports to the Department Supervisor. Personal contact with others will typically involve interaction with technical and quality assurance personnel to give information on product related concerns. This position requires a person who is safety conscious, quality conscious and goal oriented. The Special Projects work environment requires the handling of hazardous chemicals, the physical ability to stand for extended periods with frequent stooping and bending and repeatedly lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be capable of wearing a cartridge loaded half face respirator.Schedule:Monday - Thursday 4:00pm-1:30amFridays 2:30pm-11:30pmPrimary Responsibilities:Perform specific tasks associated with the manufacture of rubber and composite productsRecognize product/process issues and assist with troubleshootingMaintain a clean and organized work areaSupport training of employeesEnter job data into software data collection systemPerform accurate counts of physical inventoryUnderstand and follow safe work principlesResponsible for quality and workmanship of product producedEducation and Experience Requirements:High School diploma or equivalent1 year manufacturing experience requiredRequired SkillsAbility to complete production forms, such as product travelersAbility to follow work order instructionsAbility to safely operate machines in area of assignmentSufficient visual acuity to inspect products producedAbility to read and understand technical drawings, work orders and written proceduresAbility to accurately utilize measuring equipment such as calipers, thickness gages, weigh scales, and tape measuresProficient in shop mathBasic computer skills requiredPreferred experience with the manufacture of rubber and composite products:Compression and transfer molding, hand lay-up, rubber to metal bonding, composite to metal bonding, vacuum bag autoclave curing, pressure boot bonding and testing/inspection of productThe operation of hydraulic presses, steam and nitrogen autoclaves, degreasing equipment, oven, mechanical inspection equipment and mechanical hand tools.Specific Tasks and Focus Areas:Perform specific tasks associated with the manufacture of rubber productsAssigned by the Supervisor or Lead PersonExecute manufacturing processes in accordance with work orders, procedures and schedules to achieve daily goalsOperate processing equipment such as Autoclaves, die presses, rubber presses, lathes and & mechanical hand toolsUtilize measuring equipment such as calipers, thickness gages, weigh scales, and tape measuresAccurately complete process control paperwork (raw material tracking on work orders)Recognize product/process issues and assist with troubleshootingKnow when to stop processingNotify supervisor/lead personAssist with the problem solving process to resolve the issueMaintain a clean and organized work areaUtilize 6S techniques (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety)Participate in the daily workgroup start up meetingResponsible for maintaining a clean work areaCapable of generating skill versatility sheets for productsCleanliness of work area/cell at all timesSupport the training of other employeesAs directed by the Supervisor and under close supervision & review of the Lead Person or SupervisorProvide training and familiarization on the work processes and the operation of equipmentCompletion of product training log sheets for employees being trainedEnter job data into software data collection systemReport material usage and labor when requiredInput data using a computer on a daily basis when requiredPerform accurate counts of physical inventoryIdentify low inventory levels of direct materialsIdentify low inventory levels of shop aidsNotify lead/supervisor of needed direct and indirect materialsUnderstand and follow safe work principlesPractice safe work methodsWear personal protective equipment when requiredSupport Supervisor/Lead Person in maintaining a safe work environmentCapable of identifying safety issues with production equipmentResponsible for quality and workmanship of productPerform visual/dimensional checks to ensure product quality and workmanshipIdentify and report product problems and issuesIdentify and report equipment problems and issuesAA/EOE/W/M/Vet/DisableR.E.
