This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring a skilled finance professional who can build scalable processes, lead a team, and deliver meaningful insights to support organizational decision-making. The Senior Accounting Manager will work closely with executive leadership and practice managers to drive financial excellence across all locations.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & ConsolidationsLead the preparation of accurate, timely consolidated financial statements across all practice locationsCreate, optimize, and champion processes across all departments that interact with FinanceImplement best practices associated with recording transactions, and related processes, in all departmentsManage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with precision and consistencyMaintain intercompany reconciliations and eliminations in a multi-entity environmentEnsure all reporting is compliant with US GAAP standardsAssist in IRS tax reportingCompliance, Risk & Internal ControlsDesign, implement, and continuously improve internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrityIdentify financial and operational risks across locations and develop mitigation strategiesEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirementsServe as the primary liaison for external auditors and tax advisorsOperational Efficiency & Process ImprovementIdentify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting workflows across multiple locationsStandardize chart of accounts, reporting formats, and accounting policies across all practicesChampion technology and system improvements to increase automation and reduce manual effortSupport onboarding and integration of newly acquired practices into the consolidated financial structureMetrics, KPIs & Financial AnalyticsDevelop and maintain a suite of financial and operational KPIs tailored to veterinary practice performanceProvide insightful variance analysis, trend reporting, and commentary for leadership reviewPartner with operations and practice managers to translate financial data into actionable insightsSupport budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processesTeam Leadership & CollaborationLead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvementCollaborate cross-functionally with HR, operations, IT, and practice leaders to support organizational goalsAct as a trusted financial advisor to the executive team and practice leadershipChampion a collaborative environment aligned with Veterinary United's people-first valuesRequirementsEducation & CredentialsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)CPA designation strongly preferredExperience7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership roleDemonstrated experience in a multi-location, multi-entity environment — healthcare, veterinary, or service industry experience a strong plusProven track record of managing financial consolidations under US GAAPExperience with external audits, tax filings, and regulatory complianceBackground in building or improving accounting systems and processesTechnical SkillsDeep knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standardsProficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and Sage IntacctStrong Excel skills; experience with data visualization or BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) a plusFamiliarity with ERP systems and integrationsLeadership & Soft SkillsStrong communicator who can present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholdersHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities across locations simultaneouslyCollaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, growing organizationDetail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindsetHigh integrity, discretion, and professional judgmentWhat We OfferCompetitive salary commensurate with experienceComprehensive health, dental, and vision benefitsWork-life integration culture — we believe fulfilled people do their best workOpportunities for professional growth and mentorship within a rapidly growing organizationA collaborative, values-driven team that prioritizes people and pets over the bottom lineThe chance to shape financial infrastructure at a mission-led company making a real difference in veterinary medicine
