However, this position description does not define all potential duties related to this position, and persons may be asked to perform other duties in support of the Corporation’s mission.Position DescriptionPosition Title: Special Education ParaprofessionalSchool Department: Designated SchoolSupervisor: Principal and Assistant PrincipalTerms of Employment: Per Classified Conditions of EmploymentPrimary FunctionTo assist teachers and students with learning activities aligned with the Corporation’s educational programming to continuously develop students’ knowledge and skills so that they are prepared to pursue college and/or career opportunities.Essential DutiesRecognize the basic dignities of students, parents and families, colleagues, and subordinates.Exercise due care to protect the mental and physical safety of students.Supervise students during transitions, recesses, lunches, and other times as directed.Assist teachers in providing services to meet students’ personal needs and academic needs.Supplement teacher instruction to support student learning.Perform non-instructional duties to support the implementation of special education services.Initiate and maintain collaborative relationships with students’ parents and families.Essential Qualifications And CharacteristicsA high school diploma or an equivalentA positive, student-centered, and solution-focused attitude towards education and studentsThe ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with othersEffective verbal and written communication skillsPunctuality and regular attendanceRespect for supervisorsThe ability to work with diverse groups of studentsThe ability to enforce corporation and school rules and policiesThe ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policiesThe ability to use various computer and technology resourcesA past record clear of criminal activity and child abuse or neglectWorking ConditionsThe duties of this position are performed in all school environments. Persons are required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, and depth perception. Noise levels in the working environments may be moderately loud or loud. Occasionally, persons are required to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
