The position is responsible for initiating and maintaining all aspects of barge maintenance and inspections on MMT barges while ensuring compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company safety standards. We pride ourselves on maintaining a strong team environment with a commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.Barge Maintenance Assistant ResponsibilitiesResponsible for U.S. Coast Guard inspections of MMT bargesServe as backup Vetting Coordinator for customer inspections of MMT bargesMaintain proper documentation aboard all MMT bargesReview and maintain current hull inspection reports from vessel personnelPerform light maintenance and repairs to MMT bargesMaintain current hose and pipeline test recordsCoordinate all dry docking and structural internal U.S. Coast Guard inspectionsCoordinate maintenance and repairs for MMT bargesResponsible for purchasing barge equipment through the MMT purchasing departmentRemain current on U.S. Coast Guard regulations for tank bargesTeach barge maintenance duties to boat crews through MMT training coursesAssist in shop maintenance and cleanupBackup Marine Boilerman and assume those responsibilities when neededEnsure a safe and efficient work environment through periodic job inspections and enforcement of safety requirementsReport unsafe or hazardous conditions and nonconformities to supervisorBarge Maintenance Assistant Skills/RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 5 years of experience in tank barge transportationMust possess a U.S. Coast Guard Tankerman Document with at least two years of experienceValid driver's license requiredValid TWIC card requiredStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to plan, organize, and coordinate projectsExtensive knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard regulations pertaining to bulk oil shipment on inland watersExtensive knowledge of tank barge design and equipmentBasic mechanical skills requiredMust possess a Certificate of Completion for a Shipyard Competent PersonExtensive travel and overnight stays requiredStrong commitment to safety and operational excellenceThe person selected must be self-motivated with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills and successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings and evaluations.Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
