Engineering Manager, Platform
About The RoleYou'll lead Gamma's Platform organization as we scale to serve hundreds of millions of users. This means overseeing the critical systems that power everything: infrastructure, security, identity, and the foundational platforms that enable product teams to move fast while maintaining world-class reliability and performance. You'll manage a team of 15–20 engineers across multiple domains, balancing technical vision with people leadership.You'll own the technical roadmap for systems that serve millions daily, establish operational excellence practices including incident response and observability, and champion security-first thinking across the engineering organization. You'll partner with product engineering and leadership to balance competing priorities across scaling, security, and developer experience, all while building and mentoring a team that can sustain Gamma's growth.Our team has a strong in-office culture and works in person 4–5 days per week in San Francisco. We love working together to stay creative and connected, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.What You'll DoLead and mentor a team of 15–20 platform engineers across infrastructure, identity, security, and app platform domainsGuide senior and staff engineers in making strategic technical decisions about architecture, scalability, security, and reliabilityOwn the technical roadmap for platform systems including AWS infrastructure, identity and authentication, security tooling, and developer platform capabilitiesEstablish operational excellence practices including incident response, on-call rotations, SLAs, and system observabilityChampion security-first thinking and compliance requirements (SOC 2, GDPR) across the engineering organizationDrive platform engineering hiring and onboarding, collaborating with recruiting and leadership to build world-class teamsWhat You'll Bring8+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, backend systems, or security, with deep proficiency in AWS, distributed systems, and authentication systems4+ years managing and developing engineering teams at high-growth SaaS companies, with experience leading across multiple technical domains or managing managersDeep understanding of cloud infrastructure, identity and authentication systems, security engineering, and observability, with strong knowledge of compliance frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO 27001Demonstrated track record delivering complex infrastructure migrations, security initiatives, and platform improvements while maintaining reliabilityExcellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex infrastructure and security concepts for product teams and leadershipA background in security engineering, identity platforms (AWS Cognito, WorkOS, Auth0, Okta), and a track record of successful large-scale infrastructure migrations (Nice to have)Compensation RangeThe base salary for this full-time position, which spans multiple internal levels depending on qualifications, ranges between $250K - $350K plus benefits & equity.Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to experience and expertise in the requirements listed above.If you're interested in this role but you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway!
