Lead Data Analyst Anticipated Salary Range: $73,000-$90,000Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and ExperienceThe State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a Lead Data Analyst to join the Clerk’s Office and support strategic decisions through advanced data analysis, performance measurement, and reporting. The Clerk’s Office serves as the official custodian of the judicial and administrative records of the Commission and the central filing office in Virginia for most business entities, as well as Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) financing statements. This includes processing more than 800,000 registrations and fees annually for corporations, limited liability companies, business trusts, limited partnerships, general partnerships, and limited liability partnerships. The SCC offers a hybrid work schedule, as well as training and professional development opportunities.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesCreate and support ongoing maintenance in Power BI of complex data reports used for analytics and forecasting from all Clerk’s Office systemsDevelop dashboards and staffing models to evaluate division performance and enhance decision-makingUse advanced statistical, quantitative, and programming methods (e.g., SQL) to analyze large and complex data setsOversee and manage all SQL queries stored in Ad-Hoc Query in the Clerk’s Information System (CIS)Create, manage, and utilize best practices for workflows built through Power AutomateMonitor complex data to identify changes in solutions and division trendsExamine complex data reports to locate and resolve issues using quantitative tools, advanced computer modeling, and database toolsTrain and mentor junior analysts, providing technical guidance and analytical supportCommunicate data analysis, innovative solutions, and recommendations to management, in writing and verballyCollaborate across sections and partner with management to gather requirements and specificationsProvide technical and data support for all Clerk’s Office systems to ensure continuity of servicesEnsure confidentiality of data and reports that are generated for stakeholders, leadership, Commissioners, and General AssemblyPerform related work as requiredPreferred Qualifications Four (4) or more years of professional experience with data analysis and reporting, SQL, statistics, and/or data managementA bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics, data science, information systems, information technology, or a related degree is desirable but not required with 8 or more years of relevant professional experienceConsiderable knowledge of data analysis, reporting, and statistical methodologiesConsiderable knowledge of technology such as SQL database, PowerBI, and Microsoft productsAbility to assemble, organize, and present statistical information derived from a variety of sourcesAbility to lead teams, projects, and initiativesAbility to solve complex issues and implement innovative solutionsAbility to present ideas in a cogent, understandable, and compelling manner when providing solutions, both verbally and in writingAbility to be inquisitive, use logic and reasoning, and challenge the status quoAbility to prioritize work, support change management efforts, and adapt equipment and technology to serve user needsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with SCC staff, industry personnel, and the publicKnowledge of the functions, statutory responsibilities, and statutes administered by the Clerk’s Office is a plusSCC InformationLocated in downtown Richmond, the State Corporation Commission (SCC) is an independent state agency with regulatory authority over public utilities, insurance, state-chartered financial institutions, investment securities, retail franchising, and utility and railroad safety, as well as serving as the state’s central filing office for businesses. The SCC is also charged with administering Virginia’s health insurance marketplace. The SCC’s structure is unique.
