Materials Lead - 1st Shift

Position SummaryThe most advanced level of production employees responsible for interacting with all departments to help employees meet personnel needs and meet production needs to insure on time and accurate delivery to customer. Responsible for driving improvements specifically directed at Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost savings training and daily staffingProvides knowledge and expertise in complex process control systems and equipment by using systematic approaches to diagnose, locate and correct malfunctions and undesirable equipment operations. Helps expedite the movement of steel from raw material to finished product.Incumbents organize, prioritize, troubleshoot and direct personnel for accurate and on-time production.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesWork alongside employees driving Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery each day. Resolve day to day issues to meet customer demand.Train, mentor, develop, and maintain training sheets and cross training matrix on all employees and make recommendations for employee advancement.Complete daily production, scrap, and rework reports as requiredRecord daily attendance of seasonal and regular full time employees and submit weekly payroll reportsExecute and prioritize scheduled work orders to meet customer requirementsConduct pre-shift meetings and delegate daily work assignmentsProvide input and present seasonal and RFT evaluation, disciplinary reports, and provide input on merit increasesProvide a safe working environment and encourage active participation in the 8-step safety processIncident/Accident investigation and reportingInvolvement in cost reduction and continuous improvement projectsInteract with outside vendors as neededAct on behalf of the manager when empowered to do soCritical Skills, Knowledge And AbilitiesIntermediate computer skills – MS Word and MS Excel, ERP System (Oracle)Advanced communicational skills (written and verbal)Strong respect/interpersonal skillsAbility to interact in a positive manner with management and other employees to achieve goalsStrong leadership skillsStrong organizational skillsDependable and reliableBasic Presentation skillsAdvanced ability to troubleshoot production/personnel issuesAdvanced ability to analyze employee weaknesses/strengths - Propose training & guidance for those employees
