The Team:Morningstar’s Compliance team supports Morningstar’s global business entities, primarily focusing on those registered with and governed by regulatory authorities. Our compliance professionals help each Morningstar business entity adhere to the rules and regulations of the local regulatory authorities.The Role:Morningstar’s Compliance team is currently seeking a highly motivated Compliance Director to join our team. The primary focus of the role is to oversee the daily administration of the compliance program for the Morningstar Wealth, Retirement, and Research groups located in the United States. This position is based in Chicago and reports to Morningstar’s Chief Compliance Officer, Americas – Wealth, Retirement, and Research.Key Responsibilities:Design, implement, and oversee the compliance program for United States-based regulated entities under the Investment Advisers and Investment Company ActsAdminister and support local and global controls compliance team activities regarding policies and procedures, advisory agreements, registrations, regulatory filings, disclosures, training, monitoring and testing, customer complaints, and risk assessmentsManage relationships with clients and regulators on material compliance mattersStay informed of regulatory developments, respond to regulatory inquiries, and facilitate regulatory examinationsProvide advice to employees on material compliance and regulatory matters and respond to escalated questions from business unitsSupply guidance on new products/services or material changes to the business modelMonitor implemented updates by business units due to regulatory or compliance policy changesPrepare and present informal and formal training sessions on complex topicsOversee and mentor the United States compliance teamSupport the United States compliance team with other tasks, initiatives, or projects, as directedPromote a culture of complianceRequirements:Bachelor's degree. Advanced degree and/or relevant certifications a plus8+ years’ compliance experience with investment adviser and investment company regulationsSolid understanding of and experience with applicable advisory services, regulatory environment, rules and regulations (Advisers Act, Investment Company Act, ERISA), and implementing policies and procedures for new or changing regulationsExperience with all facets of a compliance program and successful implementation of courses of actionExcellent verbal and writing skills that enable messages and decisions to be articulated confidently, effectively, and diplomatically across all levels of the businessProvide well-informed guidance backed by strong knowledge and analysis of the issueStrong commitment to providing support to the compliance team, internal customers (management, businesses, products, etc.), and protecting the company and stakeholdersAbility to consistently apply and display a reasonable and mature approach in critical thinking by being able to independently assemble, evaluate, and apply logical reasoning to informationStrong organizational and project management skills with the flexibility to respond to changing prioritiesRobust interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environmentAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyHigh degree of integrity and strong work ethicAttention to detail and highly organizedStrong leadership/management experience Experience leading a monitoring and testing function a plusCompensation And BenefitsAt Morningstar we believe people are at their best when they are at their healthiest.
