Position Type:Coaching/CoachingDate Posted:12/5/2025Location:Odessa High SchoolDate Available:TBDClosing Date:Until FilledSpring, Head Coach - Distance- Boys Varsity Track and Field -OutdoorPOSITION OVERVIEWUnder direction of the Athletic Director, the Coach is responsible to develop and sustain a program for students to achieve a high level of skill in applicable sport fitness, and the development of an appreciations for discipline, hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:Coach individual participants in mechanics and skills necessary for successful participation/achievement in the sportCoordinate and supervise a regular practice scheduleEncourage sportsmanship, fair play and team unity, and enforce and demonstrate ethical conduct on and off the fieldEnforce contest, school, conference and state rules and regulationsEnforce the Appoquinimink School District and DIAA policies for athletic eligibilitySupervise assistant coaches and enhance their professional development (when applicable)Monitor the safety conditions and accountability issues involving students and facilitiesMaintain accurate records of uniforms/equipment inventories, individual and team statistics, and accomplishmentsMaintain and submit required forms and athletic documentsRecommend purchase of equipment and suppliesEffectively communicate with administration, players, parents, assistant coaches, and communityAttend all required coaches' meetings including clinicsKeep the school sports website page up to date and submit all scores in a timely mannerDevelop a total program for grades 6 through 8Performs any other related duties as assigned by supervisorMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBelow are the qualifications for this position:Experience coaching/participating in applicable sport at the high school or collegiate level. Prior coaching experience is desirableKnowledge of NFHS applicable sport Rules, DIAA Rules and Regulations, Blue Hen Conference Regulations, and ASD Policies and ProceduresKnowledge of basic First Aid / Athletic Training PracticesAbility to communicate effectively with students, teachers, coaches and community using the APPROVED Appoquinimink School District Communication MethodsExcellent organizational skillsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONSThe work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school, gymnasiums, or athletic fields. Duties may be performed away from school.
