This is a short-term contract position, performed primarily remotely.Engagement OverviewThis role supports a federal data science initiative requiring hands-on technical delivery. The Senior Data Engineer will work directly with federal program staff and ALT's analytical team to execute data engineering tasks from requirement through delivery.Primary ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement data pipelines supporting federal analytics and reporting productsPerform statistical programming and code modernization in Python and RSupport data collection, cleaning, and transformation workflows aligned with federal data governance standardsContribute to the development and enhancement of data visualization and dashboard productsProduce clear, accurate technical documentation meeting federal writing and quality standardsEngage directly with federal stakeholders to clarify requirements and communicate technical approachesRequired QualificationsDemonstrated hands-on proficiency in Python and R at a production level — individual contributor experience requiredProven experience designing and building data pipelines in structured environmentsWorking knowledge of data visualization platforms as a pipeline consumerStrong SQL skillsFamiliarity with federal data governance frameworks and data handling requirementsAbility to deliver independently within a lean, senior-level teamU.S. Citizenship required; must be able to meet federal background investigation requirementsAbility to obtain and maintain a federal public trust designation requiredPreferred QualificationsPrior experience supporting federal agency data or analytics programsExperience working within small GovCon firms or as an independent federal contractorFamiliarity with federal accessibility and compliance standardsCompensationCompetitive hourly rate commensurate with demonstrated federal delivery experience.
