Job DescriptionPosition Summary & Objective
The Material Handler is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving materials with the plant, yard, and/or worksite.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position
Loads, unload, and moves materials throughout the plant, yard, and/or worksite.
Reads work orders and/or follows verbal instructions.
Empties chip bins for the machining department.
Opens containers using steel cutters, crowbar, clawhammer, etc.
Conveys materials from storage or worksites to designated areas using fork truck, hand truck, or another device.
Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials.
Lifts heavy objects by using a power hoist.
Assembles crates.
Operates industrial truck or electric crane/hoist.
QualificationsRequired Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Previous fork truck and overhead crane experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Solid mechanical skills. Must have mechanical ability to proficiently use cranes and other heavy tools and equipment that are normally required in daily job operations.
Ability to use judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequence of operations and processes within the limitations of established or standard methods and procedures.
Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions.
Capable of using small machine and hand tools, cranes, and forklifts.
Basic computer skills and the ability to use basic shop math.
Ability to verbally communicate with team members and supervisors.
Possess the physical strength and ability to safely handle heavy equipment and tools.
