Charleston Battery | Charleston, SCThe Charleston Battery are seeking a data-driven marketing leader to drive ticket revenue, fan growth, and digital demand for one of the most historic clubs in American soccer. This role will oversee the club's performance marketing and digital demand strategy, with a focus on paid media, email marketing, lifecycle marketing, and marketing analytics that convert fans into ticket buyers.Depending on experience, the position may be hired at the Marketing Manager or Director level.This role sits at the intersection of sports, growth marketing, and fan engagement, leading the digital marketing engine that drives attendance, merchandise sales, and long-term fan loyalty.The ideal candidate is comfortable managing digital campaigns, interpreting performance data, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to execute high-impact marketing initiatives.Role OverviewThe Marketing Manager / Director will lead the Charleston Battery's performance marketing and fan growth strategy, managing digital advertising, email and SMS marketing, campaign planning, and marketing analytics.This role is goal-oriented and responsible for driving measurable results, including ticket sales, matchday attendance, and revenue growth through marketing campaigns.The position plays a critical role in growing the club's fan base and digital audience through strategic marketing campaigns and data-driven optimization.The role works cross-functionally with ticket sales, partnerships, communications, and merchandise teams to bring integrated marketing campaigns to life across digital, social, email, and stadium platforms.The position also works closely with the club's external branding and marketing agency and requires someone who can critically evaluate agency strategy, challenge assumptions when needed, validate campaign performance, and ensure marketing initiatives are delivering measurable results. The ideal candidate is comfortable stepping into an active season and quickly evaluating existing campaigns, platforms, and agency strategy.Key ResponsibilitiesPerformance Marketing & Paid MediaLead the club's paid media strategy across:Meta (Facebook / Instagram)Google Search and YouTubeTikTokConnected TV (CTV)Digital out-of-home (billboards)Responsibilities include:Planning match-by-match digital campaigns to drive ticket salesManage and optimize the club's annual digital marketing budget across paid media channels.Managing budgets and optimizing performance (ROAS, CPA, conversions)Building audiences and retargeting funnelsLaunching creative tests and campaign optimizationsWorking with content team to develop high-performing ad creativeCollaborating with external agency partners while maintaining strong internal ownership of performance marketing strategy and resultsEmail & Lifecycle MarketingOversee the club's email and SMS marketing strategy to drive revenue and fan engagement.Manage campaigns and automated flows using KlaviyoSegment audiences and build lifecycle marketing journeysDevelop win-back and retention strategiesAnalyze performance including revenue attribution, engagement, and conversionEmail is a major revenue channel for the organization and plays a key role in ticket sales and fan retention.Campaign Strategy & Match MarketingLead the marketing strategy for Charleston Battery home matches and key initiatives including:Ticket promotionsSeason launches and playoffsSpecial events and theme nightsMerchandise launchesCommunity and supporter initiativesResponsibilities include:Building integrated campaign plansAligning messaging across paid media, email, social, and stadiumCoordinating with communications and content teams on campaign assetsAnalytics & Marketing PerformanceUse data to drive decisions and continuously improve marketing performance.Monitor campaign performance and marketing ROIAnalyze ticket sales trends and demand curvesTrack performance using tools such as Google Analytics, ad platforms, and CRM dataProvide insights and reporting to leadershipValidate marketing performance across agency-managed and internally managed campaignsOwn marketing performance metrics tied to ticket sales, including campaign ROI, conversion rates, and demand generation for home matchesThis role requires someone comfortable using data to guide marketing decisions.Cross-Department CollaborationWork closely with multiple departments/teams across the club:Ticket Sales - drive demand generation and promotional campaignsPartnerships - support sponsor activations and promotionsCommunications & Content - develop campaign assets and storytellingMerchandise / Operations - support product launches and ecommerce promotionsQualificationsRequired4-8+ years of experience in digital marketing, growth marketing, or performance marketingStrong experience managing paid social campaigns in Meta Ads Manager, including campaign structure, audience targeting, and performance optimization.Experience managing digital advertising budgets and performance optimizationExperience with email marketing platforms (Klaviyo, HubSpot, Mailchimp, etc.)Analytical mindset with ability to interpret marketing performance dataExperience managing marketing campaigns tied to measurable revenue or conversion goalsStrong organizational and project management skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced sports environmentAvailability to work ALL Charleston Battery home matches and key club events.PreferredExperience in sports, entertainment, live events, or ticketed experiencesExperience with platforms and tools such as:Google Ads / YouTube AdsKlaviyoGoogle Analytics (GA4)Ticketing platforms such as SeatGeekShopify or ecommerce platformsProject management tools such as AsanaExperience managing integrated marketing campaignsWhat Makes This Role UniqueThis role sits at the center of the Charleston Battery's fan growth strategy and offers the opportunity to:Lead digital marketing for a historic professional soccer clubDrive real revenue impact through marketing campaignsWork in a fast-growing soccer market ahead of World Cup 2026Help shape the future of the club's marketing strategyLocationCharleston, South CarolinaFull-time, in-personJob Questions:When would your available start date be?
