We support the teaching, research and public service mission of Texas A&M University, with focus on customer service and communication.The Transit Trainer is responsible for training budgeted and student transit drivers during Phases I, II, and III of training, being knowledgeable of the daily operation of the campus transit system, and assisting with coordinating drivers, trainees, and buses as well as assisting customers regarding the transit system.Salary: $25.25/hrA cover letter and resume are strongly recommended.QualificationsRequired Education and ExperienceHigh school graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Two years of experience as a commercial driver or dispatcher, instructor/trainer or equivalent relevant experience.Required Licenses and CertificationsValid vehicle operator's license and good driving record.Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "B" vehicle operator's license (commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 60 days of employment.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to operate several types of buses and vans to the extent of maneuvering safely through congested traffic conditions, adverse weather and road conditions.Exhibits a high degree of mental concentration and independent judgement.Good verbal and written communication skills.Experience with computers.Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.ResponsibilitiesTraining - In the field: Assist with all aspects of training budgeted and student drivers including Phases I, II, and III of training to include proper and safe vehicle operation, route operations, service delivery according to published schedule and prepares drivers for the DPS skills and driving test for the required license. Responsible for a written evaluation and providing feedback to the trainee after each training shift. Makes recommendations to supervisor and management regarding the trainee's ability to move forward in the training process or if re-training is necessary. Perform re-training as directed and perform ride checks of drivers as assigned. Training activities require working in all types of weather. Assist trainees and customers with any questions they may have about routes, procedures and operations. Monitor trainees and drivers for adherence of policies and procedures to include ensuring that all State laws, University rules, departmental and unit policies and expectations. Required to serve as a driver and assist in operations as needed.Administrative - In the office: Input all necessary data entry required by management to include trainee progress, training history, reports and documents related to trainee's progress. Make recommendations to supervisor and management for actions that can improve the training program, training materials and training efficiency. Assist in producing and revising training manuals and materials.Monitor/Report - Responsible for reconnaissance and reporting of traffic and other situations that may affect service. Watches for and reports missing bus stop signs, trees that require trimming, bad road conditions and other situations that affect service. Monitors effectiveness and efficiency in customer service and operational soundness and make recommendations to supervisor and management for improvements.Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods of time.Other Requirements and Factors:This position is security sensitive.This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules, and procedures.All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.Transportation Services is committed to providing courteous, responsive, quality service to our customers by fostering a respectful, positive, and welcoming environment for all.
