Communications Technician I
JOB
The purpose of this position is to perform technical functions associated with the installation, repair and maintenance of electronic and communication systems for the Carmel Clay Communications Center and for other City departments as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Installs, maintains, diagnoses, repairs, programs and evaluates electronic equipment and communications systems, including closed circuit television system, alarm access control system, voice mail system, radio communication system, telephone system, fiber optic network system, televisions, AV Systems, computers, monitors, printers, modems, radar speed detection systems, public address systems and tornado sirens.Performs maintenance on backup systems at Data Center, including radio systems, Doppler weather alert system, alarm systems, AV Systems and electrical power systems.Inspects, tests and monitors machinery, AV equipment and parts for proper operations; makes routine adjustments, repairs or replacements; reports problem situations.Performs various manual tasks associated with department activities, which may include installing antennas, installing or removing telephone lines, running communication\AV cables and maintaining Data Center and Tower site buildings.Performs general maintenance of computer/AV systems, such as troubleshooting computer/AV problems, installing or replacing AV hardware and software, backing up data.Non-essential Job Functions: Performs other related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Associate’s degree in electronics engineering, electrical engineering or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.Two (2) years of experience that includes low voltage or audio video installation/service.Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license.The City of Carmel, Indiana, is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
