Under the supervision of the Patrol Sergeant, the PoliceOfficer protects the life and property of citizens within the City ofAbilene by enforcing all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.The Police Officer performs preventative patrol duties, enforces trafficlaws, investigates crimes and accidents, and provides citizenassistance.The Abilene Police Department is a progressive organization focused onachieving excellence through professionalism. Non-certified applicants starting wage is\$22.81 to \$31.94/hr. Certified applicants/lateral transfer startingwage based upon experience, education and training is \$25.10 to\$35.14/hr.Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 years of age, of goodmoral character, have a valid drivers license, and possess a high schooldiploma or GED. Some college credit or law enforcement certificationpreferred. Selected applicants will be invited to participate in writtentesting and a panel interview. Successful candidates must pass athorough background investigation, physical ability testing,psychological exam, truth verification exam, and must possess excellentcommunication and public relation skills as well as problem solvingability.
