About The OpportunityA well-established supplier of architectural millwork, hardwood lumber, mouldings, doors, and specialty building materials is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent & Inventory Manager to support operations, inventory management, and procurement functions.This role is ideal for someone with experience in lumber, millwork, building materials, manufacturing, or construction supply environments who thrives in a fast-paced operational setting and enjoys improving processes, managing vendor relationships, and optimizing inventory performance.Position SummaryThe Purchasing Agent & Inventory Manager will be responsible for sourcing materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring products are available to meet production and customer demand.The position works closely with sales, warehouse, operations, and leadership teams to support purchasing strategies, inventory control, forecasting, and operational efficiency.Key ResponsibilitiesPurchase lumber, millwork, hardware, sheet goods, mouldings, doors, and related materialsMaintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete stockMonitor purchasing trends, supplier pricing, lead times, and vendor performanceNegotiate pricing, freight terms, and delivery schedules with vendorsCreate, manage, and track purchase orders and receiving processesAnalyze inventory turns, stock usage, and forecasting trendsCoordinate with warehouse and production teams to ensure material availabilityResolve vendor discrepancies, shortages, damaged shipments, and delivery issuesDevelop and improve inventory control systems and purchasing proceduresSupport reporting related to purchasing metrics and inventory valuationAssist in streamlining procurement and operational workflowsQualifications3+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain operationsExperience within lumber, millwork, building materials, manufacturing, distribution, or construction supply industries preferredStrong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skillsExperience using ERP, inventory management, or CRM systemsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication and vendor management skillsProficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting toolsUnderstanding of inventory forecasting, lead times, and warehouse operationsPreferred SkillsKnowledge of hardwood lumber species, mouldings, sheet goods, doors, or millwork productsExperience with inventory forecasting and purchasing analyticsFamiliarity with logistics coordination and freight managementProcess improvement mindset with strong attention to detailAbility to identify operational efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
