Job Title: Mechanical Engineer II Classification: Salaried Exempt Reports To: Director of Engineering Department: Engineering About the Role This role will be based out of Elgin, IL. Reporting to the Director of Engineering. Our primary equipment focuses on paper systems and paper consumables. Responsibilities and projects include innovation, machine design, consumable development, concept development and evaluation, test plan development and execution, and other related activities. The Mechanical Engineer II will research, refine, develop and design new and retrofitted production machinery. This will include various mechanical devices and transportation systems. The development of this equipment will also utilize input from product manager, executive management, and director of engineering. The scope developed encompasses work with customers, engineering team, vendors, product managers to identify needs and translate into products and/or processes, effectively meeting requirements for safety, performance, durability, and cost. Balance multiple projects concurrently using prioritization skills to effectively execute company strategy. Interface with field technicians to support ongoing equipment issues. Work closely with internal and external equipment builders related to BOM, running engineering changes, and value engineering initiatives. Stay current with new and future technologies and software relevant to the existing platform and projected product direction. Advanced knowledge in beta testing, product selection, evaluating and choosing optimized technology to meet our future needs. Competency (Knowledge, skills, and abilities) BS ME or equivalent demonstrated experience. 3-5 years' experience in a blank slate equipment design engineering role. Knowledge of ME engineering principles, with rotating heavy equipment design, part design, drawing creation, tolerance analysis, deflexional analysis, Torque spec for servo /camming. Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, FMEA and other mechanical engineering concepts. Proficient with AutoCAD Inventor (We can, however, discuss a transition) Balance multiple projects concurrently using prioritization skills to effectively execute company strategy and priority. Ability to develop project scope by collaborating with customers, sales, NPD, engineering team, vendors, product managers to identify needs and translate into products and/or processes. During design, build and manufacturing effectively meet requirements for safety, performance, durability, and cost. Ability to work hands-on with projects in a research and development environment. Problem solving mentality with ability to think creatively to troubleshoot machine issues, design constraints, and other roadblocks. Experience with firmware, software & electro-mechanical components is a plus. Must be detail orientated, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize. An initiative-taker with excellent communication skills. Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to partner with internal customers. Project Management experience is a plus. Environment Exposure to moving equipment. Inside work Heat may exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity may exceed 80% Noise may exceed 85dB+ Physical Characteristics Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, up to 75% Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to X lbs) Occasional typing/keyboarding/preparing documents. Position Type Full time Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis's total compensation package. The annual base pay range for this role is estimated to be in the low $100,000s to $150,000.
