QA Technician I

Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Technician I is responsible for ensuring food and packaging production is run according to the specifications outlined in client requirements and ensuring metal detectors and machinery work to standard in the Plant. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for completing quality control on various food items, packaging, visual and physical testing, sizing, and taste testing on food. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: A QA Technician I is expected to perform one or more of the following essential job functions based on the business assignment (detailed): Responsible party in supporting the food safety culture of the company. Ensures product is packaged and sealed correctly. Ensures client product specifications are followed. Reviews requirements, specifications, and technical design documents and provides feedback. Check products and packaging for basic quality defects and verify the accuracy and completeness of data. Performing various in-line quality control checks. Take samples of products at various stages of processing. Perform data entry and record keeping. Regular filing of documents. Provide assistance in testing and analysis of packaged food products. Check and monitor product quality. Conduct routine tests for product specifications, Grade and label raw materials or finished products. Ensure hygiene and sanitation practices conform to policies and regulations. Delivers day-to-day assignments with high quality and attention to detail. Identifies defects and risks in the early stages of the production process. Hold products not within specification by generating hold tags and distributing them to the proper personal. Assist in the disposition of Hold Product when needed. Support operation on quality-related activities, such as pre-operational follow-up verifications, product start-up, and end of run verifications, and technical assistance as needed. Support operational needs within three major parameters: Food Safety, Quality Consistency, and Food Manufacturing Regulations. Appropriately monitor and respond to all process operating guidelines and comply with GMP & Safety policies. Assist with routine and situational GMP/Food safety inspections, exercises, systems, and/or investigations for any quality, food safety & security concerns. Perform testing of raw material sampling to finish product and Sensory evaluation (cupping). Conduct QA line audits & GMP inspections. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications: Experience in food production environments with working Knowledge of HACCP, HARPC, GMP, FSVP, and Sanitation programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good handwriting skills. Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English preferred. Understanding of quality control standards and methodology. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Must be able to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions in English and/or Spanish. Must be able to work 6 or more consecutive days including overtime, any shift, including late nights, weekends, and holidays. Capable of lifting 50 pounds unassisted. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent; one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1-year experience working in a food processor facility (desirable). Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; some areas of the manufacturing location could be extremely cold or hot. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high; some areas require noise protection.
