Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED)
The ED Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering fast-paced, high-acuity care to patients with diverse emergent medical needs, including, but not limited to:Triage & Assessment: Rapid assessment of patients to determine the severity of their condition.Patient Care: Providing competent nursing care, including medication administration, treatments, and monitoring vital signs.Critical Thinking: Utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) to handle unpredictable, urgent situations.Collaboration: Working with an interdisciplinary team (physicians, specialists) to develop and implement care plans.Patient Advocacy: Educating patients and families, ensuring compassion and comfort.RequirementsEducation: Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing required; Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or MSN preferred.Licensure: Current RN licensure in Virginia, North Carolina, or a compact state.Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required (Emergency, Intensive Care, Intermediate Care, or Med/Surg preferred).Certifications: BLS required within 90 days of hire; ACLS and PALS or ENPC required within 1 year of hire.About Sentara Leigh HospitalEnvironment: High-volume, fast-paced environment with a focus on teamwork.Specialties: Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, primary stroke center, and specialized orthopedic/spine care.Key Features: Home to the region's only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program.
