In this role, you will design, prototype, and iterate on a range of electromechanical systems for unmanned aerial platforms—including payload delivery mechanisms, sensor rigs, and other mission-specific hardware—primarily for defense sector customers.This is a fast-paced position where prototypes are built to fly, not just to present. You will see your work tested in real-world operational environments, often within days or weeks of concept.What You'll DoDesign and build functional electromechanical systems, taking concepts from whiteboard to field-ready hardware on tight timelines.Develop payload delivery mechanisms, sensor integration rigs, and mounting systems for various drone airframes.Work closely with electrical, software, and flight operations teams to ensure seamless system-level integration.Travel to U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) hosted technology and training events—including JRTC and NTC rotations—to support on-site testing.Perform assembly, troubleshooting, and field repair of prototypes in outdoor and austere environments.Documentation: Track designs, test results, and lessons learned to support iterative development.QualificationsRequiredCitizenship: U.S. citizenship (required for access to U.S. military installations).Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.Software: Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent).Fabrication Skills: Strong proficiency with 3D printing (FDM/SLA), CNC machining, laser cutting, manual machining, and soldering.Environment: Comfort working in outdoor, field, and defense-style operational environments.Travel: Willingness to travel domestically to DoD training sites as needed.Preferred3+ years of industry experience in mechanical design or rapid prototyping.Prior experience with UAS/drone platforms or defense technology programs.Experience with GD&T, FEA, or CFD analysis tools.Familiarity with ITAR/EAR regulations.Military service or prior experience working alongside military personnel.Position Details & BenefitsLocation: On-site at Hylio Inc.
