Process Engineer - Furnaces

Job Title: Process EngineerJob DescriptionThe Process Engineer will contribute to the design, installation, and operation of various process areas. This role involves conducting research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes, conducting tests, monitoring production performance, troubleshooting manufacturing performance variances, and ensuring the safety compliance of processes and equipment. The role supports the Furnace Team.Responsibilities+ Perform engineering work related to the design, procurement, installation, and operation of multiple process areas such as ADUN production, organic solution preparation, solution-gelation, solvent washing, particle drying, graphite matrix production, overcoating, fuel core pressing, green pebble pressing, compact pressing, shaping, heat treatment, quality control, industrial waste processing, radioactive waste processing, and uranium recovery.+ Develop specifications for process equipment and collaborate with suppliers to ensure critical design characteristics are met.+ Work with subcontractors and suppliers to design, construct, deliver, and install process equipment.+ Conduct research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes.+ Develop methods and procedures to safely and efficiently process and handle chemicals and materials in solid, liquid, and gaseous forms.+ Design and plan equipment layout for new processes, products, or customers.+ Collaborate with the R&D team to translate lab-scale processes to pilot and production scale.+ Work with the regulatory team to establish safety procedures and controls for handling dangerous chemicals, processes, or equipment.+ Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.+ Provide support for waste permitting.+ Conduct tests and monitor process performance during production.+ Troubleshoot manufacturing process problems, monitor variances from process controls, and provide recommendations to reduce or eliminate variances.+ Maintain a master list of all chemical inputs, outputs, and waste streams, as well as all equipment in process areas.+ Uphold a professional demeanor and behavior in all communications.+ Perform other duties as assigned.Essential Skills+ Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, material science, material science engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.+ 5-15 years or more of relevant work experience, depending on level (Level III - 5 years, Level IV - 10 years, Level V - 15 years or more).+ Experience with CAD and P&ID.+ Experience with industrial equipment design, procurement, installation, and operation.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Master's degree in engineering or related field may substitute for two years of experience.+ Experience with high temperature furnaces/equipment.+ Experience with the installation and commissioning of equipment.+ Design documentation review capabilities.+ P&ID review capabilities.Work EnvironmentOn-site office environment with a focus on engineering processes and equipment. The position offers 3 weeks of PTO and 11 holidays.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Greenbelt, MD.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $100.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
