Position SummaryThe Controller will serve as a key member of the leadership team and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, cash management, forecasting, and financial planning activities across the organization.This individual will partner directly with executive leadership to provide financial visibility, support strategic decision-making, improve operational performance, and ensure the integrity of the company’s financial operations.The ideal candidate is a highly analytical, hands-on financial leader with extensive construction accounting experience and a proven track record of building scalable processes, managing high-performing teams, and supporting growth-oriented organizations. Primary ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Reporting• Lead all accounting and financial reporting functions across the organization.• Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.• Develop executive-level financial reporting packages, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).• Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulatory requirements. Construction Accounting & Operational Finance• Oversee Job Costing, Project Profitability Analysis, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting.• Monitor project budgets, labor costs, subcontractor costs, committed costs, and cost variances.• Partner closely with Operations, Project Managers, and Executive Leadership to improve financial visibility and project performance.• Support contract administration, lien management, subcontractor compliance, and project financial controls.• Develop processes that improve forecasting accuracy, margin management, and operational efficiency. Cash Flow, Forecasting & Strategic Planning• Lead company-wide budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.• Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and working capital requirements.• Evaluate financial risks, growth opportunities, and investment decisions.• Support banking relationships, financing initiatives, and capital planning activities.• Provide strategic financial guidance to support business expansion and long-term growth objectives. Accounting Operations & Internal Controls• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Billing, Collections, and General Ledger functions.• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.• Establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls and financial procedures.• Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and compliance activities.• Ensure financial data integrity and operational transparency throughout the organization. Leadership & Team Development• Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing accounting and finance team.• Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.• Establish performance expectations and support employee development through coaching and mentorship.• Build scalable financial processes and organizational infrastructure to support continued growth. QualificationsRequired• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.• Minimum of 10 years of progressive Construction Accounting experience.• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams.• Demonstrated expertise in:Construction AccountingJob CostingWork-in-Progress (WIP) ReportingBudgeting & ForecastingCash Flow ManagementFinancial ReportingInternal Controls• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems.• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.• Exceptional analytical, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.• High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information.Preferred• CPA designation and/or MBA.• Experience with ERP implementations and enterprise accounting platforms.• Experience supporting high-growth construction organizations.• Experience within residential, multifamily, commercial, or shell construction environments.
