Senior Database AdministratorWe're looking for a hands-on Senior DBA to own the operational excellence, reliability, performance, and security of our global database infrastructure across AWS and Azure. You'll manage mission-critical, multi-region production systems and collaborate closely with Data Engineering, DevOps, and application teams.What You'll DoDatabase OperationsAdminister and optimize production databases including Couchbase, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Cosmos DB, and SnowflakeManage Couchbase clusters including XDCR replication, monitoring, and troubleshootingPerform installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration management across cloud and on-prem environmentsOptimize query performance through indexing strategies, query tuning, and execution plan analysisPlan and manage scaling strategies including sharding and capacity planningImplement database security controls including access management and encryptionBackup, DR & ResilienceDesign and maintain backup strategies with defined retention policiesImplement and validate restore procedures to meet RTO/RPO objectivesDevelop PITR capabilities and execute disaster recovery drillsManage AWS Backup, native database backups, and cross-region replicationIncident Response & SupportParticipate in 24/7 on-call rotation for mission-critical systemsLead database incident response including outage resolution and root cause analysisTroubleshoot complex production issues such as replication lag, memory pressure, and deadlocksMonitoring & AutomationImplement monitoring and alerting using Datadog, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and native toolsAutomate routine tasks using Python, Bash, PowerShell, and cloud-native toolingMigrations & DocumentationLead database migration and upgrade initiatives with minimal downtimeDevelop and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and Architecture Decision RecordsSecurity & ComplianceImplement IAM roles, network isolation, secrets management, and encryptionManage credentials via AWS Secrets Manager and Azure Key VaultSupport security audits and compliance with data residency requirementsWhat You'll Need5+ years as a DBA managing production systems at scaleStrong hands-on experience with AWS database services: RDS/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Aurora, AWS BackupWorking experience with Couchbase cluster management, XDCR, and N1QLExperience with Azure database services including Cosmos DB and Azure Database for PostgreSQLDeep understanding of database internals, indexing, and query optimizationExperience designing and testing backup, restore, PITR, and DR strategiesProficiency with Datadog, CloudWatch, and Azure MonitorScripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShellExperience with IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormationWillingness to participate in 24/7 on-call rotationWhat Will Make You Stand OutCloud/database certifications (AWS Database Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure DBA, Couchbase)Experience with Snowflake administration and optimizationFamiliarity with AWS DMS, Azure Data Migration Service, or CDC technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, Debezium)Experience with containerized environments (ECS, Kubernetes) for database workloadsExposure to vector databases and AI/ML-related workloadsExperience mentoring junior DBAsPerformance Tuning, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, Python ScriptingTechnology Doesn't Change the World, People Do.®Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
