Salary: See Position Description Location : Wilmington, NC Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2026-Sheriff Department: SHERIFF'S OFFICE Opening Date: 02/23/2026 Closing Date: 5/18/2026 11:59 PM EasternPosition InformationThe New Hanover County Sheriff's office is seeking a Shelter Attendant responsible for care of shelter animals, maintains the County animal shelter, and assisting with preparation and sterilization for spay and neuter procedures. Duties will include providing daily care of animals to include feeding, bathing, medicating, and cleaning up after animals; daily cleaning of the shelter; assisting with spay and neuter clinic, cleaning surgical packs, dispensing medication, and autoclaving surgical instruments; assisting with the physicals, vaccinations, and euthanasia of shelter animals and with the preparation of animal carcasses for disposal; staying in contact with the veterinarian when animals come in needing extra care, creating medication treatment sheets as directed by the veterinarian, and giving fluids as needed; assisting with the redemption, impounding, and adoption of shelter animals, assigning housing to incoming animals, and assisting with the advertising of animals available for adoption; helping to maintain an inventory of animal food, cleaning and office supplies, medicines, various chemicals, and other shelter supplies and enter; updating animal information into the computer system, posting animals ready for adoption on social media sites, working with local rescue groups to help find homes for adoptable animals, and performing work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county. Salary Information:,Thehiring range for this position is$38,000 - $50,000. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
