Job DetailsDescriptionJob Title: Manager, Fleet Services Department: Effective Date:Grade: 13 Transportation 1/1/08Reports To: Director, Transportation Operations Working Conditions: FLSA: ExemptPosition is not routinely exposedto adverse environmental conditions.Typical office environment.Direct Reports: Driver ManagerNetwork PlannerPosition SummaryEnsure profitability and growth of the transportation Fleet Services Group and complete customer satisfaction through effective management of all aspects of the operation including driver management, on-time service, equipment utilization, employee development, and safety.Duties And ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Develop and manage operational KPIs and related reports to identify trends, set benchmarks and establish continuous improvement initiatives.Review P&L to contain costs and maximize profitability and identify opportunities for improvement.Hire, train, coach, counsel and perform disciplinary action as required. Develop training programs for drivers and operations personnel.Promote and support company safety initiatives.Create planning strategies for holidays, seasonality, and new business to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient deployment of resources.Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, government laws, and DOT regulations.Visit key customers on a periodic basis to foster relationships, address service concerns, and identify additional business opportunities.Investigate and resolve internal or customer issues related to operational causes and develop corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence.Perform periodic review of customer trailer pools and on-time performance to ensure optimal asset utilization and employee productivity.Develop retention programs to reduce driver and customer turnover.Ensure timely and effective communication of service needs and issues across channels in order to meet customer demands.Marginal FunctionsAssist in driver recruitment, screening and hiring process.Participate in Safety Review Committee Meetings.Obtain training and continuing education as required to fulfill job responsibilities.Attend regular inter-departmental meetings.Provide backup support to driver managers and network planner as required.Assist maintenance in scheduling of equipment for PM and other required maintenance.Job Specifications Minimum 5 years experience in transportation fleet management.Minimum 5 years management experience with P&L responsibility.Prefer bachelor’s degree in business, logistics or related field or enrollment in post-secondary education program.Knowledge of DOT laws, regulations and reporting requirements related to drivers and equipment.Excellent oral and written communication, problem solving and customer relationship management skills. Ability to prioritize, organize and handle multiple tasks in a fast pace office environment. Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office and software applications, and accurate typing skills (25 wpm minimum).
