Salary : $40,934.40 AnnuallyLocation : Aiken, SCJob Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Public SafetyDivision: Community ServicesOpening Date: 03/27/2026Closing Date: 4/10/2026 11:59 PM EasternDescriptionThe City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Youth/Family Program Coordinator to join our Public Safety Department.This position coordinates with other departments, churches, private and governmental agencies to develop and maintain programs and initiatives that encourage children and families to reach their highest potential and become effective members of the community. It also serves as the Police Athletic League Director.Examples of DutiesOrganize, facilitate, and coordinate initiatives and programs that encourage officer engagement with community youth, i.e. sports programs, the arts and parenting programs. Research and incorporate evidence-based methods with programs and initiativesEstablish working relationships with other department divisions, City departments, local youth, and non-profit agenciesServe as a resource and referral center for children, youth and families, including crisis interventionParticipate in community collaborations to identify needs and critical issues for children, youth, and familiesEstablish platform/methods to educate the community on ways to make a difference in the lives of children, youth, and familiesAdvocate for children, youth, and families by working for solutions and communicating relevant and timely information via available platforms to ADPS staff, youth serving organizations and/or the community, at largeAs requested, provide technical support to organizations that work to help children and families reach their potentialSupervise and administer the policies and procedures of the Police Athletic League as set forth by the Board of Directors and shall assist the Board, Officers, Committee Chairpersons and Volunteers in carrying out their dutiesResponsible for the coordination of all Police Athletic League programs and activities, personnel and their selection, speaking engagements, budget preparation and purchasingReport to the Police Athletic League Board on all programs and activities.Coordinate and oversee ADPS PAL youth and family engagement programs, including registration, activities, events, and equipment accountability. Manage financial processes in coordination with the PAL Treasurer, including fee collection and fund handling. Lead program communication through website and social media platforms, organize key events and provide support to partner organizations serving youth and familiesOther Responsibilities:Acts as a liaison between the community and the department and providing assistance to bothAssists in training line personnelIncrease awareness of the community assistance program to the community in an effort to encourage timely reporting and assistanceDevelops and presents educational programs concerning youth and family programsAttends seminars and studies written materials to maintain knowledge of current practices in the fieldMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree from four-year college or university; in public administration, criminal justice, sociology, or closely related field is preferredThree years of applied experience in working with juveniles and their families; or any combination of experience and training which provides the desired knowledge, abilities, and skillsAnalytical abilities are required to interpret data, recognize discrepancies contained in data, and correct or determine the cause of discrepanciesInterpersonal skills necessary to be pleasant and helpful to citizens and businesses and courteous of fellow employees while performing dutiesAbility to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to citizensValid state-issued driver's license in good standingSupplemental InformationThis position is subject to a criminal background check for any convictions directly related to its duties and responsibilities.
