Infant Audiology Health Coordinator
Purpose:The Infant Audiology Health Coordinator supports families of newborns who have hearing loss or who did not pass their newborn hearing screening. This role serves as a compassionate guide, helping families understand next steps, access timely diagnostic evaluations, connect with early intervention services, and navigate medical, educational, and community resources. The Infant Audiology Health Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring children receive appropriate follow-up care and support to optimize developmental outcomes.Responsibilities:Provides comprehensive care that assists clients in navigating the plan of care after a failed newborn hearing screen.Provides clear, culturally responsive education about hearing screening results, diagnostic testing, and treatment options.Assists families in scheduling and coordinating audiology appointments and specialty referrals.Facilitates timely connections to early intervention programs and community-based services.Maintains accurate and timely documentation in clinical and billing records and databases.Teaches and advises clients and providers on the importance of follow-up after a failed hearing screen.Supports participants from screening through diagnosis, timely hearing-aid fitting, and early intervention.Collaborates with audiologists, pediatricians, early intervention providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.Identifies and address barriers to care, including transportation, insurance, language access, and social needs.Participates in outreach and education efforts to promote awareness of newborn hearing screening follow-up.Represents EveryStep in a positive and professional manner, communicates effectively and respectfully with team, manager and community partners, and maintains confidentiality at all levels of the agency.Complies with accepted professional standards and ethical guidelines.Manages time, organization, and scheduling to meet client needs as well as other job duties and responsibilities.Utilizes language interpretation/translation services and obtains pertinent information according to the culture and primary language of each individual as appropriate.Engages in on-going personal professional development and training.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, nursing, child development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Current and valid Iowa RN license for a person in the practice of nursingMinimum of two years of experience working with children and families in healthcare, early intervention, or community settingsKnowledge of pediatric hearing screening, hearing loss, or early childhood development preferredWorking knowledge of maternal child health principles and practices, including community health problems, preventive measures, and community resourcesAbility to plan, organize, and utilize teaching principles in working with families, clients, medical providers, and community organizationsProficient in using computers and software systems, including EHR platforms and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to exercise independent nursing judgmentExcellent critical thinking and decision-making skillsAbility to accept and work with diverse populationsAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, using the English languageAbility to physically carry out the various aspects of providing services in the client's home, school, orother environmentsCurrent American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certificationMandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire)Must have valid driver's license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation if driving is requiredSuccessful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test and background checkWorking Conditions:Physical requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical activities: Climbing, Kneeling, Reaching, Pushing, Talking, Hearing, Repetitive motions, Balancing, Crouching, Standing, Pulling, Stooping, Crawling, Walking, Lifting, Fingering (picking, pinching, typing, etc.), Grasping (applying pressure with fingers and palm), Feeling (perceiving size, shape, texture, temperature by touching), Visual acuity (field of vision for analyzing data, viewing computer, using measurement devices, operating machines, determining accuracy or neatness, and/or making general observations)Environment: Extreme temperatures, Hazards (chemicals, infectious diseases)Time: Ability to be flexible with a varying schedule and programmatic requirementsTravel: Required between locationsThese characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
