Veterinary Technician Team Lead
About Vet At Your Door
Vet At Your Door (VAYD) is a veterinarian-led mobile practice providing in-home veterinary care to pets and families throughout Maine. Built on the idea that pets receive their best care in familiar surroundings, we deliver high-quality, compassionate medicine right where our clients live.
We are a privately held company with an ambitious long-term goal: transitioning to a fully employee-owned national veterinary organization, with an ESOP planned within the next three years.
This position combines strong technical expertise with leadership and meaningful client communication. Appointments emphasize relationship-building, education, and intentional medical care, with opportunities to incorporate complementary therapies like acupuncture and cold laser alongside contemporary veterinary medicine.
About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned Lead Licensed Veterinary Technician to oversee and support a mobile technician team in the field. This is a highly autonomous, leadership-driven role well suited for a technician who thrives with responsibility, independent decision-making, and mentoring teammates.
In this position, you’ll manage technician-only appointments, direct your assigned technician or assistant, and act as the primary clinical and operational point person for your mobile unit. You’ll be empowered to make informed decisions on the road, recognize when escalation is needed, and confidently handle client questions and concerns without a veterinarian on site.
This role also carries a significant administrative component. Success requires strong organizational skills and comfort with documentation, scheduling logistics, inventory management, communication, and timely follow-through on tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a mobile technician team (yourself plus one assistant or technician)
Independently run technician appointments in client homes
Make real-time clinical and logistical decisions in the field
Know when and how to seek DVM support when needed
Confidently communicate with clients, addressing questions and concerns professionally and compassionately
Provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to your team member
Maintain accurate medical records, documentation, and follow-up communication
Manage and complete administrative responsibilities related to appointments, inventory, and workflow
Uphold VAYD standards of care, professionalism, and client experience
This Role Is a Great Fit If You:
Are a natural leader who enjoys guiding and supporting others
Thrive in autonomous roles and take pride in ownership and accountability
Are confident making decisions independently in the field
Communicate clearly and calmly with clients in sensitive or complex situations
Enjoy both hands-on clinical work and behind-the-scenes administrative tasks
Value work-life balance and consistent weekday hours
Want to grow within a mission-driven, privately owned (soon-to-be employee-owned) practice
Qualifications & Experience
Active Maine Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or license-eligible
Previous leadership experience strongly preferred, including:
Lead Technician experience

Minimum 5+ years of clinical experience (more strongly preferred for leadership candidates)

Professional, compassionate presence in client homes
Reliable, adaptable, and confident working independently
