Chief Operating Officer
Reporting to the Executive Vice President/Chief Administrative Officer, responsible for the overall clinical operational performance of University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc. (FPI) and its affiliated Practice Associations (PAs). Accountable to ensure the effective implementation of approved strategies, tactics, policies, and procedures in all clinical practices. Provides operational consultation for all activities of the practice in accordance with its business and strategic plans in such a manner that builds long-term value and provides a consistent return to the FPIs’ stakeholders. Collaborates with the University of Maryland School of Medicine Dean, President of FPI, Executive Vice President/Chief Administrative Officer, Department Chairs, and Clinical Administrators with implementing the organization’s short and long-term clinical practice strategies while enhancing quality of care, patient satisfaction, patient access, clinical care growth, and practice profitability. Provides collaborative leadership in the ongoing development, implementation, and overall management of FPI and its clinical operations. Responsible for establishing and maintaining productive relationships with a broad range of other key stakeholders within FPI, the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and the University of Maryland Medical System.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
MBA, MHA or MA degree required
10+ years of senior level leadership experience in leading clinical operations in a large physician practice or physician group with a proven track record in relationship building and business management
Strong understanding of ambulatory care operations, finance, and administration, including clinical practices in an academic or tertiary care setting
Understanding of regulatory and policy and environments
Knowledge of Athena IDX and Epic
Knowledge of physician professional fee billing
Excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making and communication skills to perform the functions as described. Incumbent must have the ability to navigate political arenas with ease and persuade and negotiate with others as necessary
