Spoyslvania County Public Schools is seeking School Nurses for the 2026-2027 School Year. This position provides nursing services to the student population in various environments and works collaboratively with school staff, parents, guardians, and healthcare providers to meet the health care needs of students for the purpose of minimizing absences due to illness, maximizing education opportunities, and creating a healthy school climate.Essential Job Functions:Assesses student health needs to develop appropriate nursing care plans, determine when sick or injured children should be sent home, seek follow-up medical care, and or be referred for emergency transport to a hospital settingAdministers first aid, emergency aid, medication, specialized medical procedures, and healthscreenings based on State of Virginia regulations and statutes governing nursing and school health, as well as SCPS policyReviews, updates, and maintains a cumulative health record for all studentsServes as the medical liaison for special education students (e.g. performing vision andhearing assessment for triennial reassessments, reviews the health and developmental history of each child, attends individualized education program meetings as needed, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state mandatesCollaborates with parents/guardians, healthcare providers, teachers, multidisciplinaryprofessional staff to implement individualized student care, particularly for students with chronicconditionsCollaborates with healthcare providers, staff, and families to implement and maintain up to datehealth care plans, 504 plans, and IEPs for studentsFunctions as a liaison between students, parent/guardians, staff, and healthcare providers topromote access to care and or coordinate carePromotes student independence by establishing care goals, teaching and counseling students, parents/guardians, and staff to reinforce understanding of disease and self-care Click here to read the full Job Description for this role. Education and Experience:RequiredAssociate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or universityCurrent (valid, not expired) Registered Nurse (RN) License held within the state of Virginia or other compact stateAbility to obtain additional license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School BoardExperience in school, pediatric, public, or community health nursingCurrent (valid, not-expired) BLS CPR certification PreferredBachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or universityNational School Nurse Certification (NBCSN)About Spotsylvania County Public Schools:Comprised of 31 schools and home to a diverse student population of over 24,000, Spotsylvania County Public Schools is one of the largest School Divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia.So what sets us apart?
