The school offers an incredibly expansive array of educational experiences for students and is dedicated to hiring and retaining a high-quality, diverse staff.Position SummaryThis position oversees all the work in the school’s Hatchery Innovation Center makerspace where students develop skills, create, fix, tinker, design, and build. The position will deliver appropriate training and services to students including an apprenticeship program for students to master skills with tools, woodworking, electronics, etc., collaborating with teachers to integrate innovation into traditional curriculum, supporting student projects that require hands-on building, and connecting students with local experts.We will consider both certified teachers with an innovator’s mindset and non-traditional educators who are skilled/handy entrepreneurs and would love working with students in a school setting. This position reports to the Building Administration (Principal or Assistant Principal). Key ResponsibilitiesCreate a flexible course program infused with design thinking skills to address building and community needs.Partner with and provide opportunities for staff seeking curricular connections and extensions.Manage classroom dynamics, ensuring a productive and respectful learning environment.Develop training opportunities, such as mini-courses, for a variety of students to gain access to the Makerspace resources.Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, funds, and facilities.Organize class materials and plans to ensure minimal disruption during manager absences.Discover and tap into the wealth of available community resources.Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when reasonably requested.Oversee daily operations of a fully equipped MakerSpace, ensuring tools and equipment are maintained, organized, and safe for use.Foster a culture of innovation and creative problem-solving.Encourage experimentation, iteration, and skill-building.Teach and model best practices of tool safety and other trades-related skills while ensuring a safe learning environment.Perform other related duties as assigned.
