Power Systems Engineer / Contract / Hybrid / Taylor, TX
We are seeking Power Systems Engineers across multiple experience levels to support the planning, analysis, and operation of electric power systems. These roles will focus on transmission and distribution (T&D) systems, including interconnection studies, power flow analysis, and grid reliability assessments. Candidates will contribute to projects spanning system planning, renewable integration, and grid modernization initiatives.
Contract Duration:24 Months to Start, Potential to Extend or Convert
Key Responsibilities:
Performpower system studies , including power flow (load flow), short-circuit, and stability analysis for transmission and distribution networks
Support and execute interconnection studies for generation resources (e.g., solar, wind, storage), ensuring compliance with utility and regulatory requirements
Design, model, and analyze transmission and distribution systems to ensure reliability, efficiency, and scalability
Evaluate system performance under normal and contingency conditions (N-1/N-2), identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies
Develop and validate system models using industry-standard tools such as PSSE, PowerWorld Simulator, or ETAP
Collaborate cross-functionally with planning, operations, and project teams to support grid expansion and modernization efforts
Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NERC, IEEE, regional requirements)
Prepare and present technical reports, study results, and engineering recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
Key Tasks & Duties:
Conduct power flow analysis to assess system loading, voltage profiles, and congestion across T&D networks
Perform interconnection and feasibility studies, including system impact and facility studies for new generation or load connections
Analyze short-circuit currents, protection coordination, and equipment ratings
Support transmission planning and distribution system upgrades, including capacity expansion and reliability improvements
Develop detailed engineering documentation, including single-line diagrams, study reports, and technical specifications
Assist in commissioning, testing, and validation of system upgrades and new installations
Investigate and troubleshoot system disturbances, outages, and performance issues
Contribute to project planning, including cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessmen ts
Qualifications (Level-Based Flexibility):
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field highly preferred
Foundational understanding of power systems analysis, transmission and distribution systems, and grid operations
Exposure to or experience with power flow analysis and modeling tools
Preferred Qualifications (Mid–Senior Levels)
Hands-on experience performing interconnection studies and advanced power system analyses
Proficiency with tools such as PSSE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PowerWorld Simulator
Experience working with utilities, ISOs/RTOs (e.g., ERCOT, PJM Interconnection), or renewable developers
Knowledge of NERC, FERC, and IEEE standards, including interconnection and reliability requirements
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward a license
