All candidates must be eligible to work and live in the U.S. Department Rehabilitation Sciences - 273100 Working Location (City, State) Boone, NCPosition Summary InformationMinimum QualificationsMaster's degree in Speech-Language Pathology; CCC-SLPEligibility for North Carolina licensure in speech-language pathologyTwo years experience working with adults with speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, and voice disordersAreas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)The department is seeking a faculty member to provide clinical education and supervision for SLP graduate students in the adult outpatient rehabilitation and inpatient acute-care medical settings.Experience with instrumental evaluation of voice and swallowing disorders including competency with MBS, FEES and video stroboscopy is desired along with experience working with adults with speech, language and cognitive-communication disorders.Experience supervising speech-language pathology graduate students is desired.Opportunities also exist for research collaboration and collaboration with academic faculty to create simulation and skills lab experiences to support student learning.License/Certification RequiredASHA CCC-SLP, eligibility for NC license in SLPDescription of the Department or UnitThe Department of Rehabilitation Sciences includes fully accredited graduate programs in Athletic Training and Speech-Language Pathology, a new graduate program in Occupational Therapy (full accreditation expected in 2026), an undergraduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and minors in American Sign Language and Communication Sciences and Disorders. Our students are trained to empower people of all ages to improve/restore their functional abilities, fulfill their daily routines and roles, mitigate limitations or disabilities following injury or illness, and live full lives in the context of differing abilities. In addition, the department is home to the Charles and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic, which provides speech, language, hearing, and pediatric occupational therapy services as an outreach to the community and as a primary site for student clinical training. Students who graduate from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences will transition into their respective positions as quality healthcare practitioners with enhanced clinical skills, knowledge, and values. They will be well-prepared to improve the health and wellness of people across the region, state, and world. Learn more at https://healthsciences.appstate.eduEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork in the interprofessional outpatient clinic providing assessment and treatment of adults with communication, voice, and swallowing disorders.Provide clinical services to adults in the interprofessional outpatient clinic including assessment and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders.Work closely with providers in other disciplines (e.g., social work and nutrition) to provide interdisciplinary clinical services to families and interprofessional training opportunities to students.Support and create community based programming (e.g., aphasia communication group, Parkinson's communication group).On-call coverage at Watauga Medical Center is required one weekend per month for additional pay.Type of Position Full Time Position Appointment Type 1.00 Number Of Months Per Year 12-Months; Leave-Earning Physical Demands of PositionMust be able to move around a clinic, work with clients in rooms-standing, sitting, and using some computer equipment. No other lifting or physically exerting activity is required.Posting Details InformationProposed Date of Hire 03/02/2026 Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. ABD Consideration: N/A - ABD is not applicable for this position. See Minimum Qualifications. ABD DescriptionABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position.
