Manager, Database Adminstration (SQL Server / PostgreSQL)

We’re partnered with a well-established financial services firm (investment banking + capital markets) that’s continuing to scale its technology organization.We are seeking a Manager of Database Administration who can operate both strategically and hands-on, owning performance, scalability, and reliability across extremely large data environments.This is a high-impact role working closely with engineering, DevOps, and business stakeholders, with a strong focus on compliance-driven systems and large-scale data optimization.Key ResponsibilitiesOwning database performance, scalability, and reliability across mission-critical systemsWorking with massive datasets (2B+ records)—optimizing queries, indexing, and overall architecturePartnering with engineering, compliance, and legal teams to support regulated systems (SEC/FINRA-driven environments)Driving integration of third-party tools (surveillance, communications monitoring, case management, etc.)Supporting auditability, data integrity, and reporting across compliance platformsLeading agile workflows—owning backlog, prioritization, and delivery timelinesEvaluating and managing vendors tied to compliance and data infrastructureQualifications10+ years in database administration, with deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2016+)Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (admin + performance tuning)Proven track record working with very large-scale data environments (billions of records)Deep understanding of query optimization & indexing strategiesDatabase internals, performance tuning, and query optimization expertiseDirect experience with high-availability architectures Experience with partitioning, archiving, and scaling strategiesScripting experience (PowerShell, T-SQL, Python, or Bash)Exposure to cloud environments (Azure, AWS RDS, Aurora, etc.)Strong communication skills—ability to work cross-functionally in a regulated environmentNice to have:Experience in financial services or other regulated industriesRelevant certifications (Azure, PostgreSQL, etc.)
