The successful candidate will play a critical role in structuring donor and grant agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and managing a range of legal and risk management issues. This includes serving as in-house legal counsel on business practices and foundation matters, overseeing complex contractual, litigation, tax, and regulatory issues, and assisting with governance policies. The General Counsel will also be responsible for enterprise risk management, maintaining high ethical standards, and providing strategic legal guidance to support the organization's mission. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a J.D. with a minimum of 15 years' of senior legal experience, with a focus on trusts and estates. Experience with the laws applicable to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations is essential. The role requires a professional with a proven track record in legal management, advanced research skills, and the ability to exercise strategic judgment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills are necessary, as is the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
