Sick leave is accrued at 1 hour for every 40 hours worked in accordance with Washington state law.Minimum QualificationsMust have previous training and/or experience in coaching appropriate sportMaintain a current First Aid and CPR cards and be willing to keep cards current for future coaching responsibilitiesDemonstrate a willingness to actively acquire coaching clock hours to fulfill the WIAA clock hour requirementsDemonstrated ability to establish a positive rapport with and motivate the student/athleteBe knowledge of current strategies, techniques, proper safety precautions, rules and regulations for appropriate sportMust be at least 21 years of age per WIAA requirementsMust uphold board policies and follow administrative proceduresEssential FunctionsBe supportive of the total athletic program that runs through 12th gradePromote good sportsmanship and exemplify high ethical standards for self and teamBecome knowledgeable and practice WIAA Guidelines, National Federation Rules, League Standard OperatingAdhere to procedures, school district policies, and coaching handbook contentsDevelop and articulate a vision for the program that embraces character development and a positive experience for all athletesServe as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our student athletesCommunicate effectively with players, coaches, parents, media, and the communityDevelop a cooperative working relationship with other secondary head coaches in the Kelso School DistrictSupport the student/athlete within the academic program by holding high academic standards for students and monitoring student achievementExercise the proper care and storage of equipment and maintain a current inventoryCommunicate with the Athletic Director, Athletic Coordinators, Secretaries, and Building Administration regarding practice schedules, award criteria, middle school participation, volunteer coaches, general correspondence, team rosters, and discipline concernsStrictly adhere to athletic office clearance procedures prior to a student/athlete's participation in the sportProvide and review with each student/athlete a copy of the Student Athletic Handbook and apply discipline fairly and positively as outlined in the Student HandbookDistribute, collect, and keep on file signed safety guidelines from each participant in the sportFollow and enforce district guidelines when transporting student athletes to contestsTreat all injuries with discretion; administer first aid and CPR when deemed necessary and complete accident reports in a timely mannerAssist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policiesTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesHave regular, consistent attendancePerform other related duties as may be assignedOther FunctionsFulfill all other responsibilities as assignedQualificationsLicenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:Criminal Justice Fingerprint ClearanceResponsible ToSchool Principal, Athletic Director, or designeeBargaining Unit AffiliationKelso Education Association (KEA)Kelso School District #458 complies with all federal rules and regulations and does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups listed in Title 36 of the United States Code.
