Explosives Handler with Security Clearance

Position Type: Full-time, Non-exemptWork Location: U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground, Utah Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. At Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), southwest of Salt Lake City Utah, SA-TECH supports the West Desert Test Center (WDTC), the nation’s designated Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) for chemical and biological defense. The WDTC plans, conducts, evaluates, reports, and supports Chemical and Biological (CB) and non-CB testing efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal agencies, private industries, and foreign Governments (e.g., environmental assessment/impact evaluations, weapons and munitions demilitarization, chemical energetics/homemade explosive testing, unmanned systems testing, direct and indirect fire weapons testing, hazard assessments, and technical/logistical support of operations at DPG). At DPG, SA-TECH is looking to hire an Explosives Handler onto our team to support program efforts and contribute to success at this major DoD Test Facility. Specific duties include (but are not limited to): * Use explosives for demolition and for special uses. Research and review technical data for weapons systems under test. Calculate the type and quantities of explosives required to accomplish a specific mission. Work with powder and propellants. Operate scales, measuring devices and ring gauges. Use center-of-gravity, moment-of-inertia, and other equipment commonly used with explosives. Handle, disassemble, and assemble ammunition and components. Read and interpret ammunition drawings. Properly store, transport, and account for explosives. Other duties as assigned.Work Conditions: * Work is mostly performed in an outdoor setting under changing weather conditions may be required depending on the location of equipment. Must be familiar with safety processes, procedures and concerns in relation to working with explosives. May be required to lift and handle heavy items (50 lbs.). Stand/walk, climb, stoop, bend and push and pull for extended periods of time Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks that require such protective gear. Requirements Education/Experience/Skills * High School diploma or equivalent. Ideal candidates will have graduated successfully from the U.S. Military Explosive Ordnance (EOD) school and possess the necessary knowledge and practical experience to safely support EOD- related testing, training, and operations Completion of formal training on the types and characteristics of explosives and their use in demolition and for special uses. Three (3) years of experience in the use and handling of explosives. Position requires WDTC Certification and if so, certification training will be provided by WDTC government personnel when assigned or hired into this specialized position. Ability to calculate the type and quantities of explosives required to accomplish a specific mission. Experience in working with powder and propellants. Experience operating scales, measuring devices, ring gauges. Experience with center-of-gravity, moment-of-inertia and other equipment commonly used with explosives. Ability to handle, disassemble, and assemble ammunition and components. Ability to read and interpret ammunition drawings. Committed to maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment. Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment. U.S. Citizenship required and you must have a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain this clearance throughout employment. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical, as well as periodic retests.
