Campus Monitor Job Description - Jesuit High School Full-time, 12-month, hourly position Daytime Shift (7:00am-3:30pm) Jesuit High School (JHS) is a Catholic, college preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition. Located on the border between Portland and Beaverton, Oregon, JHS is recognized locally and nationally for excellence and innovation in all of its programs. Jesuit High’s motto, Age Quod Agis (“Do well whatever you do”), follows in the five-century tradition of St. Ignatius, who demanded that Jesuit schools make use of the best pedagogical practices of the day to allow students to flourish. We are seeking people who have the ability to provide to our students and school community, toward our goal of preparing "men and women for others." Overview: Serving as part of the Campus Safety team, the Campus Monitor provides for the overall safety, security, and welfare of people and property on the Jesuit High School campus. The Monitor will observe and assist visitors (when appropriate) and aid the administration in investigating student conduct matters. Unlocking and locking doors and completing regular safety/security checks are other primary responsibilities of the position. Monitors also understand, interpret and apply the standards of student conduct established in the Jesuit High School Student Handbook. Campus Monitors observe and report suspicious behavior to the Director of Campus Safety. Compensation and Benefits: Pay rate is $22.00/hour. Lock and unlock doors and gates. Monitor and patrol parking lots. Direct traffic during dismissal and special events. Monitor perimeter of campus and staff security booths (requires ability to work outdoors). Understand, interpret and apply the standards of the Jesuit High School Student Handbook. Be present, friendly, and visible on campus, acting as a role model for students. Initiate and cultivate positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other visitors. Commit to ongoing professional development and training as directed by Director of the Campus Safety and administration. Alert school administration and Director of Campus Safety to potential problems in the school and community. Communicate information, observations, and incidents that negatively impact the safety of students, personnel and visitors. Be prepared to execute tasks beyond the scope of safety and security to assist Jesuit High School personnel. Coordinate with local law enforcement as needed. Support administrators in critical incident response and incident-planning. Complete other duties and/or projects as assigned related to safety and security at Jesuit. Qualifications: Ability to possess or attain an American Red Cross (or similar), CPR / First Aid certification. Be able to lift 40lbs. High school diploma or GED. A collaborative and collegial approach to work. Ability to effectively serve and support the vision and mission of Jesuit High School and Catholic education. Desire to fully engage in the life of the school community. An understanding of the unique needs and strengths of high school students. Ability to understand and accept individual differences. Ability to work with little supervision. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an educational setting, with school security, or National Incident Management System (NIMS) training. Experience as a college student or equivalent work experience.
