We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) CAD Technician with strong experience in OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with hands-on exposure to underground utilities. This role will support SUE investigations, utility coordination, and civil design projects, working closely with field crews, surveyors, and project managers. What are the core responsibilities for the role?Process utility field dataCreate and update utility drawings using processed field dataPrepare digital test hole reports and inventory sheetsWork with survey files and field-collected dataSupport the SUE project team, including records researchAssist with creating and editing CAD drawings related to subsurface utilities and pothole investigationsUtilize client-provided CAD files as base drawings while maintaining file integrity and standardsImport, organize, and manage external CAD files and survey dataApply company and client drafting standardsUpdate drawings based on plans, field sketches, utility markouts, and client feedbackMaintain organized project folders and clean CAD file structuresCommunicate with project staff to clarify scope, base files, and permitting requirementsCoordinate with field crews, surveyors, and project managersPerform QA/QC reviews of CAD deliverables and test hole deliverables Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:High School Diploma or GEDMinimum 2 years of in-office CAD experienceExperience working in fast-paced environments and willingness to work overtime when necessary to meet project schedulesAbility to work effectively in a collaborative team environmentExperience with MicroStation / OpenRoads Designer (ORD)Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3DAbility to read and understand roadway plans, construction plans, utility as-builts, and utility record drawingsBasic knowledge of utility typesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)Ability to work within existing CAD files provided by clients or consultantsGeneral understanding of drawing scale, layouts, and plottingExcellent attention to detail and organizational skillsWillingness to learn survey interpretation and utility mapping conceptsStrong communication skills and the ability to ask questions when requirements are unclearKnowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering standards (ASCE 38)Familiarity with MicroStation environmentsAbility to perform limited field verification when neededExperience working with underground utilities such as water, sewer, storm, gas, electric, or telecommunications Why would a candidate want this job?
