Bussers at Embers play a vital role in maintaining the pace, cleanliness, and presentation of the dining room. This position supports servers and management by ensuring tables are properly cleared, reset, and maintained to Embers’ high standards. Bussers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, awareness, and urgency while contributing to a seamless and elevated guest experience.
Work Environment
Embers is a family-friendly, upscale restaurant located on the third floor of our Ocean City venue. The space offers elevated views, an open-concept kitchen with dual brick ovens, and a refined atmosphere that blends classic lounge influences with chophouse dining.
Our menu features premium chophouse selections, fresh seafood, nightly chef-driven specials, and a curated wine and cocktail program. Operated by the Taustin family for over 80 years, Embers fosters a family-oriented yet professional culture built on hospitality, teamwork, and pride in execution.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Report to assigned service areas at the beginning of each shift
Maintain awareness of newly seated tables and support service when needed
Greet guests if they have not yet been acknowledged and inform them their server will be with them shortly
Clear used tableware between courses to support proper pacing of service
Reset tables promptly and precisely according to Embers presentation standards
Clean tabletops, chairs, ledges, and surrounding areas between seatings
Monitor floors and maintain cleanliness throughout the dining room
Transport dishes, glassware, and silverware to designated areas for proper cleaning
Re-stock service stations with necessary supplies
Assist servers with guest requests, food running, drink delivery, and large parties
Communicate effectively with servers and hosts to support efficient seating and table turns
Respond professionally to guest requests and relay needs to servers or managers as appropriate
Assist with restroom cleanliness when requested by leadership
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional dining environment at all times
Thank guests sincerely upon departure and invite them to return
Remain flexible and assist in other areas of the restaurant as directed by management
If scheduled on-call, remain available for potential shift coverage
Maintain a professional appearance and positive demeanor at all times
Demonstrate urgency without rushing or disrupting the guest experience
Anticipate service needs and act proactively
Work quietly and efficiently in the dining room
Communicate clearly and respectfully with guests and team members
Take pride in cleanliness, presentation, and attention to detail
Qualifications/Skills:
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Customer-focused mindset and service orientation
Ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team
Good situational awareness and attention to detail
Ability to follow service standards, procedures, and direction
Education and/or Experience:
No previous restaurant experience required
Physical Demands:
Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 25 to 35 pounds.
Be able to navigate stairs and work at a fast pace.
