What you'll do: We are seeking a high-performing and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to support the Controller in our Alexandria, Virginia office. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll support, and the month-end close process. The ideal candidate is a proactive financial professional who ensures GAAP compliance, prepares accurate and timely financial statements, and maintains strong internal controls. This individual may also supervise accounting staff and will play an important role in supporting the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of the organization's financial operations. Responsibilities:Financial Reporting Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and statutory requirements. Support and coordinate the month-end close out process. Support and supervise weekly cash disbursements and cash receipts processes. Prepare ad hoc reports for key stakeholders as needed. Support special projects as needed. Accounting Operations Oversee day-to-day functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Help maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. Assist in developing, maintaining, and improving accounting and accounts payable policies and procedures. Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requests. Prepare and coordinate with tax professionals for various corporate tax filings. General Ledger & Reconciliations Maintain the general ledger, perform account reconciliations, and manage fixed assets. Internal Controls & Audit Establish, monitor, and enforce internal control systems; assist with external/internal audits. Budgeting & Analysis Support the budget process and provide financial analysis and variance reporting. Team Management Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff, including project accountants. Qualified Candidates will possess the following: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is preferred. At least 5+ years of experience in accounting, or finance, with a background in general contracting is highly valued. Preferred Candidates will also possess the following skills: Commitment to confidentiality and high ethical standards. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (Sage, Crystal Reporting, Procore, Power Bi, Prophix). Advanced Excel skills for complex data analysis. Analytical thinking and the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify budget inefficiencies or cost saving opportunities. Strong interpersonal skills for presenting financial results to stakeholders and leadership. Precision in identifying discrepancies and ensuring records are compliant. Excellent organizational and project management skills required. Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills. Adaptable and persistent.
