Clinical Manager, Behavioral Health and Wellness
The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago’s mission is to end the cycle of gun violence in Chicago using Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s principles and teachings of nonviolence. Informed by a philosophy of nonviolence, Nonviolence Chicago will establish caring and sustained relationships with participants engaged in the cycle of violence. We will emphasize partnerships with community members, leaders, social service providers, and local law enforcement to reduce community levels of violence. We will help create a safer, healthier environment for young adults, youth, and their families. These general approaches will be specifically addressed using five major methods: Community Violence Intervention (CVI) / Street Outreach, Individualized Service Provision, Victim Support Services, Behavioral Health and Nonviolence Training.POSITION OVERVIEW:The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago is currently seeking a Clinical Manager for the Behavioral Health and Wellness team to ensure quality services for participants. This is a senior, dual-track role that combines clinical oversight with meaningful administrative and project ownership. This position will oversee the day-to-day efforts of the Behavioral Health Team and assist with the development and implementation of Behavioral Health and Wellness programming and services. The ultimate goal is to provide behavioral health services to individuals who are actively involved in street violence or recently impacted/exposed to community violence, as well as wellness programming to staff to improve employee health and program capacity. The Manager will report to the Associate Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has experience providing behavioral health services to addressing trauma to individuals affected by gun violence, experience providing clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians, has some experience with program development and implementation, has demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of Institute for Nonviolence Chicago, and has a passion for “healing the healers.”ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership & CollaborationServe as the primary day-to-day operational leader for clinicians, fellows, interns, coordinators, and peer support specialistsLead team meetings, case staffing, and group clinical consultation; coordinate scheduling, coverage, and capacity planningAct as first point of escalation for staff concerns and team dynamicsFoster a workplace culture aligned with the organization's mission, values, and code of ethicsOwn onboarding and orientation for new clinical hires, interns, and fellowsManagement & AdministrationSupervise clinical staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws; manage performance through coaching, appraisals, and corrective action as neededProvide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to clinical staff and MSW internsMonitor and review weekly documentation to ensure timely, quality recordkeeping and guide staff next stepsPartner with the Associate Director on hiring, performance management, and goal-settingOversee select behavioral health projects including program evaluation, curriculum development, and new initiative launchesMaintain departmental systems including referral workflows, intake processes, clinical records, and internal protocolsContribute to funder reporting, outcome tracking, and program documentationRepresent the Behavioral Health team in cross-departmental meetings as appropriateProvide 24/7 clinical guidance and emotional support to staff and participants during shooting responses, in collaboration with teammatesBehavioral Health OperationsMaintain a caseload of up to 6 participants, including intakes, clinical assessments, individual therapy, and timely progress notesOversee and facilitate behavioral health groups including CBI, trauma education, and skill-building groupsCoach non-clinical staff co-facilitating CBI and other interventions to ensure quality and model fidelitySupport development of standardized tools to assess staff and participant comprehension and utilization of CBI skills; train non-clinical staff in assessment methodsCollaborate with courts, probation and parole, and reentry systems to deliver behavioral health services including CBI curriculumDevelop strategic alliances with community behavioral health and wellness providersDeliver services in a culturally humble and responsive mannerProvide presentations and trainings to staff and community partners as neededEmployee Behavioral Health & WellnessLead and participate in the interdisciplinary staff wellness team, supporting development and implementation of wellness programmingCollaborate with CORNERS and research partners to evaluate staff wellness initiativesAssist with integrating trauma-informed policies and practices across the programProvide emotional support to staff following shooting responses and other on-the-job trauma exposureCo-facilitate process groups, trainings, and presentations for staff and community partners, including CBI REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Licensure: Master's degree in psychology, social work, or related behavioral health field; LCSW required (position provides clinical supervision toward independent licensure) Experience5+ years providing evidence-based, trauma-responsive behavioral health services3+ years facilitating behavioral health groups and crisis intervention2+ years supervising unlicensed clinicians and/or MSW internsExperience working on a multidisciplinary teamExperience delivering community based services to youth and adults, preferably in communities impacted by violenceProficiency in biopsychosocial assessments and clinical documentation Knowledge & SkillsKnowledge of the criminal justice system, court processes, restorative justice, and alternatives to incarcerationStrong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and written/verbal communication skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality, follow safety/security protocols, and perform effectively under pressure Other RequirementsValid driver's license, personal vehicle, insurance, and clean driving recordMust pass pre-employment drug screening and background check; no pending criminal casesCommitment to a drug-free, safe workplaceSALARY/BENEFITS: Institute for Nonviolence Chicago puts our people first with a top-of-the-line benefits package.Competitive/commensurate with experience and other qualifications.
