Job SummaryOrange Beach City SchoolsJob Title: Bus Driver Reports to: Director or Designee Job Goal: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the school system Qualifications: Holds a high school diploma or equivalentHolds or able to obtain a valid Alabama commercial driver's license with school bus driver (S) and passenger endorsement (P), pass and maintain a ALSDE School Bus Driver Certification, an Alabama Bus Driver DOT physical and a drug test Must be insurable under the liability / comprehensive insurance carrier of the BoardMaintain a personal and job-related driving record that meets the insurance providers criteria for liability insurance for the BoardProficiency in oral and written communication skillsDemonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilitiesAlternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable Performance Responsibilities:Provides a safe and orderly environment while transporting studentsObeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school busesMaintains a valid state commercial driver's license with passenger endorsementNotifies supervisor within seventy-two (72) hours of any personal vehicle citationsMaintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports unruly students to the administrationMaintains a clean busFollows the assigned bus route/schedulePerforms pre-trip inspection before operating the bus to detect mechanical defectsPerforms post-trip inspection after operating the bus to detect mechanical defectsNotifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness on the routeTransports only authorized studentsDischarges students only at authorized stopsExercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school tripsReports all accidents and completes required reportsAssists in promoting high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areasResponds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive mannerMaintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate mannerAbility and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessaryMaintains ethical standards and confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal lawDemonstrates physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functionsProperly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school systemSupports and complies with school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor(s) Terms of Employment/Salary: 9 month (182 Days) 4-Hours / Non-Exempt / To be determined, commensurate with local salary matrix and experience.
