The county has six communities, three schools, and a population of just over 6,000 people, with an increase in the summer months due to Lake Poinsett. Deputies perform general law enforcement duties to maintain law and order throughout Hamlin County, South Dakota.Applicants MUST complete the provided application.Applicants must reside within Hamlin County within a reasonable period after hire.Responsibilities IncludeResponding to calls for serviceConducting civil process and serviceInvestigating illegal or suspicious activityProviding law enforcement services to the contract communities of Bryant, Castlewood, Estelline, and HaytiWorking closely with all three county schoolsTransporting inmatesProviding court securityTraffic enforcementServing arrest warrantsInvestigating vehicle crashesSalary$26.00/hour – Certified Law Enforcement Officers in South Dakota$24.00/hour – Non-Certified Applicants$1.00/hour raise after successful completion of field training and the six-month probationary period$2.00/hour increase upon obtaining South Dakota law enforcement certificationOvertime opportunities available after completion of field trainingScheduleDeputies typically work afternoons, evenings, and overnight shifts throughout the week.
