Photonics System Engineer

Love your job.At TI, System Engineers work to identify ideal roadmap opportunities for a business and are responsible for defining new products and platforms based on market opportunity. To do this, they leverage strong technical knowledge of our existing portfolio, deep understanding of the technologies, standards and protocols within an industry or end equipment, and an ability to engage with customers and translate their requirements into technical specifications that will solve their problems. Systems engineers also partner closely with marketing and applications engineers, as well as design teams, to ensure our roadmap is both meeting customer and market requirements and is technically optimized and manufacturable at a price and cost point that makes sense for the business.Responsibilities For a Photonics System EngineerOwns and discerns optical market trends and requirementsAttend trade shows and engage with external customers directlyEmphasis/focus on datacom market applicationsRepresents TI within the industry through Standards body engagementAttend Standards-setting meetings (OIF, IEEE (incl. E4AI), XPO-MSA, LPO-MSA, OSFP-MSA, Open CPX)Communicate industry directions back to internal teamsEstablishes internal product requirements through standards/market updatesDefine test requirements/conditions in spec compliance matrix (i.e. Starfish)Drive multi-disciplinary discussions (e.g. design, qual/rel, applications) to align product definition with implementationInfluences Optical Engine RoadmapSupport optical systems owner in roadmap (i.e. Aaron)EIC-to-PIC interface (2.5D, 3D packaging)CPO technical requirementsQualificationsMinimum requirements:Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optoelectronics, or related field5+ years industry experience in high-volume manufacturing of optical engines (EIC, PIC), preferably in datacom applicationsStrong organizational skills with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural collaboration experienceAnalytical ability to solve complex design and manufacturing challengesExperience promoting/marketing ICs and driving design wins by providing system solutionsStrong customer facing skillsPreferred QualificationsPrior experience with silicon photonics and high-speed optical device fabricationHands-on optical bench lab skills for customer support and debugAbility to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders critical to success, both internally and externallyStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to quickly ramp on new systems and processesAbility to take the initiative and drive for resultsStrong time management skills that enable on-time project deliveryBase pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
