You'll be the expert guiding patients through personalized treatment plans to improve speech, language, cognition, and swallowing. If you're passionate about empowering others and love working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, this is your chance to shine!Summary:Provide functional treatment and develop therapeutic plans for various speech related disorders. Performs tests to evaluate and assess speech, voice, swallowing, dysfluency, cognition, and language function by using written and oral tests.Responsibilities:Performs and documents an initial exam, evaluating data to identify functional impairments. Manages caseload by scheduling appropriate therapy revisits and reassessments as needed. Confers with the patient, family, caregivers, physician, and multi-disciplinary team members to plan, implement and assess the intervention program. Obtains patient's consent to proposed interventions as applicable. Make appropriate referrals to occupational therapy, nursing, social work, home health aide, and hospice services to meet the patient's needs.Reviews physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and Speech therapy treatment required. Records prognosis, treatment, response, progress, and further need for speech therapy treatment in patient's chart.Administer tests to evaluate and provide treatment for speech, voice, swallowing, dysfluency, cognition, and language function disorders by using written and oral tests. Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.Instructs the patient, family, and caregivers in techniques to increase functional communication and swallow safety and other treatment procedures to increase improve patient outcomes. Recommends modifications to improve patients' function in the home environment and improve the caregivers' ability to help the patients.Performs medicine reconciliation as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Monitors patient's vital signs and physiological response to treatment sessions. Communicates findings to team members and physicians. Responds appropriately to changes in patient's vital signs.Discharges patient from speech therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained or patient is no longer homebound. Provides for appropriate follow-up care or referrals after discharge.Consult with and educates staff on speech and swallowing topics such as communication strategies, speech and language stimulation, and swallow safety. Keep abreast of developments in the field and maintain general knowledge of advances in the discipline of speech-language pathology.Prepare and deliver lectures to therapy students and Penn Medicine staff in area of clinical expertise. Be available to lecture, supervise, train, and assess therapy students and new hires.Credentials:Basic Cardiac Life Support through AHA (Required)Car Insurance (Required)Driver's License (Required)Speech Language Pathologist (Required)Education or Equivalent Experience:Master of Science (Required)Education Specialization: Speech-Language Pathology from an institution accredited by the American Speech-Language and Hearing AssociationWe believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
