Job Description Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Weight Loss ProgramLocation: Get Well Clinic Family Health & Weight LossSchedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PMEmployment Type: Full-TimePosition SummaryThe Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for the Weight Loss Program plays an essential role in supporting the provider and ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout their weight management journey. This position focuses on assisting with weight loss consultations, patient education, medication preparation, injection administration, documentation, and follow-up communication.The CMA will work closely with the provider to monitor patient progress, ensure compliance with clinic protocols, and maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.Core ResponsibilitiesPatient Intake & Clinical SupportWelcome and prepare patients for weight loss visits, both in-office and telehealth appointments.Obtain and document vital signs, including:Blood pressureHeart rateWeightHeightBMI calculationRecord weekly weight tracking and progress measurements.Review and update medical history, medications, allergies, and contraindications.Screen patients for eligibility for weight loss medications per clinic protocols.Notify provider of abnormal vital signs or contraindications.Weight Loss Program DutiesAssist with patient enrollment into the clinic's weight management program.Educate patients on:SemaglutideTirzepatidePhentermineLipo-C injectionsB12 injectionsReview medication instructions including:Dosage schedulesInjection techniqueExpected outcomesSide effectsProvide lifestyle guidance including diet, hydration, and activity recommendations.Medication Preparation & Injection AdministrationPrepare and administer injections according to provider orders including:SemaglutideTirzepatideLipo-CVitamin B12Maintain proper sterile technique and injection safety protocols.Verify medication dosage and patient identification prior to administration.Monitor patients for immediate adverse reactions.Document medication lot numbers and expiration dates when applicable.Telehealth SupportConduct pre-visit intake for telehealth weight loss consultations.Obtain updated patient information including:Current weightMedication toleranceSide effectsAppetite changesPrepare chart for provider review prior to consultation.Send patient instructions through patient portal or clinic messaging system.Documentation & EMR ResponsibilitiesAccurately document all patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).Record:Weight trendsMedication dosesInjection administrationPatient-reported symptomsEnsure documentation supports appropriate billing and coding guidelines.Upload patient forms, consent documents, and intake questionnaires.Medication Inventory ManagementMonitor clinic supply of weight loss medications and injections.Maintain accurate medication inventory logs.Assist with receiving medication shipments and verifying:Lot numbersExpiration datesEnsure medications are stored according to temperature and safety guidelines.Patient Communication & Follow-UpRespond to patient inquiries regarding:Medication useSide effectsAppointment schedulingConduct follow-up calls or messages for:Missed appointmentsMedication check-insWeight progress updatesReinforce provider instructions and clinic policies.Administrative DutiesSchedule follow-up weight loss appointments.Verify patient consent forms and program agreements.Ensure required documentation is completed prior to provider visits.Assist with maintaining organized patient charts and records.QualificationsRequiredCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)High school diploma or equivalentBasic Life Support (BLS) certificationExperience administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injectionsKnowledge of medical terminologyPreferredExperience in weight management or metabolic clinicsFamiliarity with GLP-1 medicationsExperience using Electronic Medical Record systemsSkills & CompetenciesStrong attention to detailExcellent patient communication skillsAbility to multitask in a fast-paced clinicProfessional and compassionate bedside mannerKnowledge of injection safety and medication handlingAbility to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
