Repairs specialized off-road track equipment in the field, independently or with a Mechanic I. Monitors off-road engine, hydraulic and preventative maintenance requirements. Tests equipment for proper operation. Monitors the work of the technicians and verifies by operational quality of repairs made. Diagnoses repair of equipment. Provides training to Mechanics I and II in electrical, hydraulic and diesel repairs. Ensures safety of work site for employees. Serves as shop foreman in the absence of the equipment maintenance supervisor. Reads and understands repair manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics for all off-road and track equipment. Designs, fabricates, and builds special projects for vehicles and equipment. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesCertification in a specific trade or training such as A/C or ASE coursework preferredControlled Area Network (CAN) experience preferredAdditional technician certifications and licenses preferredDiagnosing and repairing highly complex off-road construction equipment with specialty certifications and licenses preferredAbility to train employeesThorough knowledge of road construction equipment and specialized requirementsAbility to organize, plan, and make decisionsMinimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or GEDAdditional four (4) years of related experience may substitute for a high school diplomaCertification of graduation from an accredited Mechanic Trade School may substitute for one year of experienceFour (4) years of heavy truck/off-road or diesel mechanic experience requiredCurrent and valid Class C driver license is required upon hireClass A CDL with a combination tanker and hazmat endorsement is required within eight (8) months of hirePhysical Demands And Work Environment & Other RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, crawl, walk, twist, lift, stoop, and bend.
