Job Summary
The Network Architect Planner at Wecom Fiber will be responsible for the strategic design, planning and optimization of fiber for inside and outside plant from the switch office to the fiber capacity for deployment of FTTX. This role is responsible for developing scalable network layouts, defining routing strategies, and ensuring designs align with construction standards, municipal requirements, and long-term expansion goals. The ideal candidate brings strong OSP planning experience, technical expertise in fiber network design, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to support efficient and cost-effective builds.
Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture & Planning
Design and develop OSP network architectures (fiber and copper) including backbone, distribution, and access networks.
Create high-level and detailed network designs supporting FTTH, FTTx, HFC, and wireless backhaul infrastructure.
Perform capacity planning and long-range network growth modeling.
Establish network standards, route diversity strategies, redundancy plans, and resiliency frameworks.
Develop splice matrices, fiber allocation plans, and cable routing strategies.
Project Planning & Financial Analysis
Partner with finance to provide BOM and BOQ data for cost analysis.
GIS & Documentation
Design and manage Network Architecture in the company dedicated GIS software program and ensure network record accuracy.
Maintain documentation standards for fiber counts that are spare and dark for future growth and network management.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with construction teams to resolve field design challenges.
Coordinate with the permitting department for challenging paths that will need additional required documents to construct.
Provide technical leadership to engineers and construction.
Risk Management & Optimization
Identify single points of failure and design mitigation strategies.
Develop disaster recovery and network restoration planning guidelines.
Continuously evaluate network performance and recommend infrastructure upgrades.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
7+ years of experience in OSP fiber planning, network design, or telecommunications infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of fiber optic network design, splicing principles including Db loss calculations and construction methodology.
Experience with FTTX applications such as GPON, XGS-PON and architecture for central or cascaded splits.
Proficiency with GIS platforms and OSP design tools (e.g. AutoCAD, IQGeo, 3-GIS, VETRO or similar).
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
