Machinist ApprenticeThe Machinist Apprentice works numerous areas of the machine shop mentoring on the machines, systems, and processes under machinist guidance.Candidates considered for this position will be expected to have a plan to attend a college level program for a degree or certificate in machining/advanced machining while working at UMC, Inc. This is an earn and learn program. Resumes and applications that do not reflect this will not be considered.The primary duties and responsibilities of the Machinist Apprentice consist of but are not limited to:Manage a reasonable work schedule that doesn't affect grades, performs assigned tasks from mentor safely with good quality ratings and reasonable productivity outputObserves and/or performs hands on work based on mentor's comfort level on apprentice's comprehension of safety, quality, and demonstrated good work ethics to perform tasksGood communication with Manager and Supervisor of Production on current grades, work status, and scheduling conflicts with schoolworkWork with manager(s) and mentors on how to operate various machines in the organizationEducation and ExperienceRegistered or current first year student in a machining programDisplays strong mechanical aptitude, cultural adeptness, willingness to learn/grow within the company, commitment to two-year machining degree or similar education path, long term commitment to a career in machine tradesCompetenciesStrong mechanical aptitudeProficient use of computersGood communication skills both verbal and writtenEmbodies the personal commitment to the shared core values of UMC: Curiosity, Versatility, Integrity, Grit, Go BeyondPhysical RequirementsProlonged standing with occasional twisting (80-90% of the workday)Various sitting periods throughout the shiftFrequent lifting of materials up to 30 lbs., occasional lifting to 70 lbs.Pushing/pulling carts and/or pallet jacksDexterity - with computers, ability to type, use of mouse, at a computerContinuous use of hands and upper extremities in fine and gross manipulation using various wrist positions and grip/pinch spans to operate equipment, push buttons, carry boxes, push carts, etc.Frequent firm grip with tools requiring torque to tighten machine parts, tooling, and fixturesDexterity - with computers, ability to type, use of mouse, at a computerMust be able to meet customer demand requirements for performing visual inspection and/or other product acceptance activities with or without accommodation (only for positions in which this is a requirement of the job per the customer requirement)
